Spokane Indians News Release

SPOKANE, WA - Kenny Smith and Ian Gac both homered for the Spokane Indians (20-27), but it wasn't enough as the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (38-10) won the final game of the five-game series, 14-4. Playing in their only day game of the year, the Indians committed four errors and four of the Volcanoes runs were unearned.

Salem-Keizer jumped out to a 9-0 lead, but Spokane struck back in the bottom of the fifth. Gac hit his twelfth homer of the year, and then later in the inning Smith smashed his second, a two-run shot to make it 9-3.

Jacob Brigham (4-3) picked up the loss for the Indians after going 4.2 innings, giving up five earned runs and striking out three.

The Indians would score again in the bottom of the eighth thanks to newly assigned Luke Salas, who arrived at the Spokane airport at 1:55 p.m. just before the game started at 3:30 p.m. Salas smashed a triple and then was able to come home when the third baseman missed the catch by the outfielder.

However, Salas' offense was not enough, as the Volcanoes walked off the field with the 14-4 win after their offense collected 18 hits and 11 total RBI.

The Spokane Indians will play a five-game road series against the Tri-City Dust Devils before returning to Avista Stadium on August 13th for Native Culture Night presented by K102 FM.
