Spokane Indians News Release
SPOKANE, WA - The new guys for the Spokane Indians (20-26) made their presence felt, but in the end it was the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (37-10) who came up big with a three-run eighth inning to sneak past the home team 7-5. Ian Gac also went yard in the game for his league-leading 11th home run of the season in front of 4,016 people in attendance at Avista Stadium.
However, along with Gac's consistent display of power, recent additions Mitch Moreland and Kevin Gossage starred for Spokane at the plate. After just being signed by the Texas Rangers, Moreland homered in his second game as a Spokane Indians with a shot in the eighth inning to give the Indians hope heading into the ninth. Gossage, who was just promoted from the Arizona Leagues, used his first at-bat in Spokane to hit a triple.
The Indians had things all tied up in the fifth, and relief pitcher Daniel Sattler held the Volcanoes at bay for 3.2 innings, striking out two and allowing only one unearned run. As a pitching staff, Spokane struck out eleven and gave up four runs. The Indians committed three errors in the game, and three of the Volcanoes runs were unearned.
With Boise losing once again tonight, their second straight, Spokane remains just a game and a half behind first place in the Northwest League East Division.
The Spokane Indians wrap their five-game home stand tomorrow with Businesspersons Special presented by XO Communications, 1510 KGA and KJRB 790 The FAN.
