Game Recap: Hoeffel, Frazee Help Devils Freeze Penguins

Albany Devils News Release
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - As of late the Albany Devils and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins had been moving in opposite directions. The Devils had one win in six outings, while Penguins had two losses during the same span. On Monday, however, the Devils bucked the trend at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
Mike Hoeffel had a pair of goals and Jeff Frazee turned away all but one shot as the Devils knocked off the Penguins, 2-1. The win was the first in franchise history against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
The game-winning goal began with an offensive-zone face-off win by Darcy Zajac. Hoeffel received the puck at the right hash, turned and fired a wrist shot past Penguins netminder Scott Munroe with 4:38 remaining in regulation.
Hoeffel's first tally at 7:40 of the second period was a precursor to his goal in the third. He skated the puck into the slot and fired a wrister past Munroe's glove. Fellow rookies Brandon Burlon and Mike Sislo had the assists.
While Hoeffel, who battled injury for the first quarter of the season, was providing the scoring, Frazee was busy at the other end supplying the defensive support. In his second-straight start, Frazee made five stops in the first, eight in the second and 12 in the third for 25 stops. He also helped kill off all five of the Penguins power-plays.
Ben Street was the only Wilkes-Barre/Scranton player to solve Frazee. Street's goal came on an odd-man rush at 2:18 of the third with an assist going to Craig McDonald.
Next up, the Devils host the Binghamton Senators Wednesday at the Times Union Center. The 7 p.m. game can be heard and watched on ahllive.com.
