
Ryan Parent Named to Team Canada for Spengler Cup

Chicago Wolves defenseman RYAN PARENT has been named to Canada's National Men's Team at the 2011 Spengler Cup, scheduled for December 26-31 in Davos, Switzerland.
PARENT has tallied 2 points (G, A) and 23 penalty minutes in 11 games with the Wolves this season. Last year, he posted 2 points (G, A) and 56 penalty minutes in 39 American Hockey League games with the Manitoba Moose and was held scoreless in four National Hockey League contests with the Vancouver Canucks.
The 24-year-old blueliner has posted 6 assists, 7 points and 36 penalty minutes in 106 career NHL games with the Philadelphia Flyers and Vancouver Canucks spanning five seasons (2006-11). He also has notched 2 points in 27 career Stanley Cup playoff games, which includes collecting a goal in 17 playoff matchups en route to helping the Flyers reach the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals.
The Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, native has compiled 14 points (4G, 10A) and 143 penalty minutes in 124 career AHL outings with Chicago, Manitoba, and the Philadelphia Phantoms spanning five seasons (2006-09; 2010-present).
PARENT and Team Canada will play in the Cattini Group with HC Vitkovice Steel (CZE) and host HC Davos (SUI). Dinamo Riga (LAT), EHC Wolfsburg Grizzly Adams (GER) and Kloten Flyers (SUI) will play in the Torriani Group. Canada opens the tournament against HC Vitkovice Steel on December 26.
The Spengler Cup, held annually since 1923, is the oldest professional international hockey tournament in the world.
