JACQUES NETS HAT TRICK: J.F. Jacques continues to produce for the Crunch this season. In 19 games, he has 18 points (11g, 7), including six in the last three games. With his third career hat trick, Jacques sparked a furious Crunch comeback on Saturday that fell just short. He last recorded three goals in a game on February 15, 2006 as a member of the Hamilton Bulldogs. Jacques' 11 goals rank second on the team.
MAROON THE MULTI-POINTER: Patrick Maroon totaled four points over the weekend, including two in each contest on Friday and Saturday to up his multi-point game total to 10 on the season. Maroon has registered eight two-point games, one three-point game and one four-point game, which included two goals and two assists. Friday and Saturday were the first two games this season the Crunch lost in regulation (7-2-1-0) when Maroon registered at least two points. Maroon ranks first on the team in points with 29. Just behind Maroon is Kyle Palmieri, who has eight multi-point games. Nick Bonino ranks third on the team with five.
IN THE NICK OF TIME: Before being recalled to the Anaheim Ducks on Friday, Nick Bonino played the role of hero on Wednesday in Albany. The Crunch took a 1-0 lead into the third period, but the Devils struck twice in the third to grab a 2-1 advantage. Peter Holland evened the score at two to force overtime. With time winding down in the extra session, it appeared as if the Crunch were headed to their first shootout since November 18 versus Hershey. With less than 10 seconds remaining, Dan Sexton, flanked by Bonino and Mathieu Carle, carried the puck into the offensive zone. Sexton was stalled just inside the blue line, but recovered quickly. He skated down to the goal line, flicked a pass to Bonino, who one-timed the puck by netminder Jeff Frazee with .4 seconds left in overtime. The win was the Crunch's third in overtime, and helped them to win back-to-back games on the road for the first time this season. Bonino earned his second game-winning goal of the season.
TRANSACTIONS: The Crunch continue to see players come and go with 62 transactions since the start of the season. Over the weekend, Nick Bonino was recalled by the Ducks. The Hartford, Connecticut, native ranks third on the Crunch in points (22) and tied for second in assists (16). Returning to the Crunch were left wing Brandon McMillan and center Maxime Macenauer. McMillan has three goals in seven games with the Crunch this season, and has recorded four assists in 25 games with the Ducks. Macenauer returned to Syracuse for the first time this season, after spending all of the 2010-11 season with the Crunch, when he recorded 32 points (13g, 19a) in 79 games. With Anaheim this season, Macenauer has four points (1g, 3a) in 29 games. Most recently the Ducks assigned Crunch Captain Nate Guenin on Monday morning.
UPCOMING OPPONENTS:
HERSHEY (WASHINGTON CAPITALS): The Crunch meet the Hershey Bears for the fourth time this season, going 1-2 against them in their first three meetings. The Crunch's win came via a shootout on November 18 at the War Memorial Arena. The Bears are currently tied for second in the East Division and have been one of the hottest teams in the league recently, with seven wins in their last 10 contests. The Bears have won three out of their last four games, but stumbled on Sunday against Norfolk, 6-3. Hershey is powered by three of the top five scorers in the league. Keith Aucoin ranks first with 46 points, Chris Bourque is second with 43 points and third in goals with 16, and Jacob Micflikier has 36 points for fifth.
