Matchup:
Orlando meets up with the Evansville IceMen, another team playing their first season in the ECHL, for the first of only two meetings between the clubs during the regular season. The Solar Bears played their last five games against their in-state rivals, the Florida Everblades, taking home victories in four of the five contests. Orlando secured victories in two of the three road games against Florida before coming home to Orlando with back-to-back wins. Evansville got off to a slow start this season, going 0-6-0-1 to start the year. The IceMen close out a six-game home stand, in which they have gone 1-4-0-0, against Orlando tonight. The IceMen are 1-6-0-0 in their last seven games.
Solar Bears Notes:
Orlando has played 11 of their last 16 games away from home, and by the end of this road trip they will have played 17 of their last 22 games on the road... The Solar Bears tied their season high for goals in a game in their last outing on December 28 with an 8-4 win over Florida. RW Dan Gendur, who was acquired from Evansville early in December, was named the ECHL Player of the Week last week after scoring five goals in two games. That total included a four-goal output against Florida on the 28th... The Solar Bears have won three straight games and four of their last five contests... D Sean Lorenz remains on reserve... F Ryan Ginand and LW Chris Lawrence are currently on the 21-day IR, both have resumed skating but neither player made the trip... Orlando announced yesterday that they intend to inform the league of their intentions to place a bid to host the 2015 All-Star Game at the league mid-season meetings. The meetings will be held in Loveland, Colorado, during the All-Star break later this month... LW Nick Petersen was named to the ECHL All-Star Team yesterday, making him the first Solar Bear to be selected as an ECHL All-Star... D Corbin Baldwin is currently on the 21-day IR... G Mike Brodeur remains on the 21-day IR but has resumed skating drills... D Kyle Medvec, F Rob Mignardi, and LW Nick Petersen are currently recalled to the Houston Aeros. Medvec scored an overtime game-winning goal for Houston on December 26... F Olivier Fortier is currently recalled to the Hamilton Bulldogs.
Evansville Notes:
