The Gwinnett Gladiators (23-12-1-0) earned a 3-2 victory against the South Carolina Stingrays (15-17-1-3) on Friday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Gwinnett remains in first place in the South Division with 47 points with the win.
Although South Carolina outshot Gwinnett in the first period, Casey Pierro-Zabotel put the Gladiators in front of the Stingrays at the 13:42 mark. The puck was deflected past South Carolina's goaltender Ryan Zapolski right along the goal line. Rylan Galiardi and Evan Bloodoff both earned an assist on the play.
Chris Langkow put the Stingrays on the board to even the score at one after 6:22 while shorthanded. Langkow scored another goal 7:56 into the second to push South Carolina into a 2-1 lead.
Doug Jones answered with a goal 12:46 into the second as he tied the game at two. The marker came as he squeezed the puck past Zapolski on the short side for the marker. Russ Sinkeich and Alex Belzile picked up a helper on the goal as the second period ended tied at two.
Sinkewich posted the only goal in the third period for Gwinnett as he notched the game winning goal 6:53 into the third period. Sinkewich took his time and ripped a slap shot past Zapolski for the goal, which gave Gwinnett a 3-2 lead. Jones also picked up a helper on the play. Sinkewich and Jones both notched two points in tonight's game.
The Gladiators return home tomorrow to face the Florida Everblades at the Arena at Gwinnett at 7:05 p.m.
