THROWBACK NIGHT / TEDDY BEAR TOSS

TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: After getting off to its best start since the 2007-08 season, the Cyclones flip the calendar to 2013 as they kick off a three-in-three weekend - two of which against the Fort Wayne Komets. Cincinnati picked up a 4-1 victory the last time these two teams met and will look to keep their buffer in the North Division standings. Tonight's game is the second of eight regular season match-ups.

SCOUTING THE KOMETS: Al Simms' club has won three of its last four games and now sit just four points back of Cincinnati, although they've played two additional contests. Forward Brandon Marino is far-and-away the Komets strongest player on offense. The fifth-year pro has notched 40 points (10 goals, 30 assists) in 32 games this season, ranking third among all ECHL players. His closest teammate, points-wise, is Brett Smith - who has 21 points (6 goals, 15 assists) in 29 games. Former Miami RedHawk Charlie Effinger and Ken Reiter have split time between the pipes for Fort Wayne this year; Effinger, who shouldered the loss in the first meeting with Cincinnati, is 7-7-1-0 this season with a 3.62 goals-against average. Reiter, a Minnesota-Duluth alum, has amassed a 8-6-0-1 record with a 3.06 GAA. Newcomer Marco Cousineau picked up the win in his first game with the Komets on Wednesday, making 28 saves in a 4-2 win over Gwinnett.

Rookie on the Rise: Cyclones forward Josh Birkholz has been on a tear of late. He has registered a point in three-straight games, including his second-career shorthanded goal last Saturday at Evansville. They Cyclones are 7-3 this season when he finds the scoresheet.

Slamming the Door: Cincinnati remains one of the ECHL's toughest teams to beat late in games. They are a perfect 12-0-0 when leading through 40 minutes of play and have registered 37 goals in the final stanza - their best of any regulation period.
