Trenton Falls in OT at Wheeling, 3-2

Trenton Titans News Release
WHEELING, WV - After one period things looked bleak for Trenton. After a tied second, things got interesting. After three...well, unfortunately, the only ones to go home happy were the ones who live in the town of Wheeling.
The Titian, proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, fought back from an early 2-0 hole to force overtime. However the hometown Nailers sent the 2,127 home ice faithful out of WesBanco Arena quickly, scoring the game winner with 1:01 gone in overtime to secure the 3-2 victory.
The loss breaks a tie between the two in the Atlantic Division, as the Nailers grabbed the extra point to improve to 34 points (14-12-2-4) and sole possession of third in the Division, while Trenton slips to fourth (14-13-3-233), despite gaining a point for reaching OT.
It may have been early, but overtime wasn't looking like a possibility after Wheeling grabbed a 2-0 lead after one. Chris Higgins' power play goal at 2:29, and Paul Crowder's marker later in the period, had the fans thinking victory.
However Jacob Cepis scored a five-hole shot past Peter Delmas (25 saves, 5-2-0-1) less than two minutes into the second, cutting the deficit in half. It was his third goal since coming over in a trade from Idaho and ninth overall.
Then after a series of Wheeling penalties late in the frame, Trenton ended up with a 5-on-3 chance and they made the most of it. Shane Harper - assigned to the Titans from Adirondack (AHL) - made his first game as a Titan count, tying the game, 2-2, in the latter stages of the period. Cepis picked up his second point of the night, assisting with Andy Bohmback.
Things remained scoreless - even after the Titans were forced to kill a Nailers 5-on-3 chance with under 2:30 to play, following a delay of game and disputed goalie interference call. Trenton killed that off to eventually force OT.
But in that extra session, a Titans miscue at their offensive blue line led to a contested 2-on-1 that saw Chris Barton make his ninth of the year a game-winner, as he slipped it past a diving Niko Hovinen (29 saves, 4-5-1-2).
These two will square off again tomorrow from WesBanco at 7 pm. The pregame show will take the air at 6:40. All the action can be from the Voice of the Titans, "The Bronc" Daryle Dobos, on 107.7 FM (Trenton area), 1077theBronc.com and at AmericaOneSports.com.
