(Providence, RI) - Tonight, the Hershey Bears close a back-to-back road series against the Providence Bruins. The Bears continue their current three games in three nights stretch after dropping a 3-2 shootout decision last night to the Bruins.

ATLANTIC DIVISION STANDINGS

LAST TIME OUT:

The Hershey Bears earned a standings point, but dropped a 3-2 shootout decision last night to the Providence Bruins. Riley Barber opened the scoring for the Chocolate and White at 18:26 of the first period, and the Bears went a successful 2-for-2 on the penalty kill before first intermission. In the second period, the Bruins capitalized on both power plays they were granted to take a 2-1 lead prior to hitting the dressing room for second intermission. Jordan Szwarz scored his 19th of the season at 7:11, and Paul Carey gave Providence the lead at 17:17. In the third period, Lucas Johansen tied the score at 15:05 to force overtime. Into the ensuing shootout, Anton Blidh broke the scoreless skills competition in the sixth round, and Aaron Ness was stopped by Zane McIntyre to complete the 3-2 Providence win.

REMARKABLE RILEY:

Riley Barber's first period goal last night was his 27th tally of the season, setting a new career-high for the fourth-year professional. The former Miami University RedHawk joined the American Hockey League in 2015-16 with the Bears after four seasons in NCAA. In his first professional season, Barber played a career-high 74 games and scored 26 goals for the Chocolate and White before being named Hershey's Rookie of the Year. He enters tonight with 27 goals in 53 games this season, and has produced 171 points (86 goals, 85 assists) in 226 career regular season games with Hershey.

JOHANSEN PRODUCES:

Lucas Johansen tallied a key, game-tying goal at 15:05 of the third period last night to help force overtime. The goal marked Johansen's second tally of the season, and first since Oct. 19 at Charlotte. The Port Moody, British Columbia native has tallied 11 points (two goals, nine assists) in 30 games with the Bears this season after missing time due to injury. In his second professional season, Johansen currently holds 38 points (eight goals, 30 assists) in 104 games with the Chocolate and White.

DSP FOR TWO:

In his fourth game with the Bears last night, Devante Smith-Pelly assisted on both Hershey goals. The two assists marked the first multi-point game for Smith-Pelly at the AHL level since Mar. 19, 2014 in a game against the Charlotte Checkers. That evening, DSP scored twice in the third period for the Norfolk Admirals at 18:02, before adding an empty net goal only 1:53 later. Receiving the loss in goal for the Checkers is current Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins netminder, John Muse. Current Bears forward Steve Whitney also scored that night for Norfolk.

SHOOTOUT STREAK ENDS:

Last night's shootout loss snapped five consecutive wins in the skills competition for the Chocolate and White. The Bears won a span of five straight shootouts, all within the month of February from Feb. 3 to Feb. 23. Hershey is currently 7-1 in shootouts on home ice this season, and 0-3 away from Giant Center. Vitek Vanecek owns a 3-3 record in the shootout, posting a.833 save percentage, stopping 20 of 24 opportunities. Ilya Samsonov is 3-1 in shootouts this season, and has turned aside 8 of 10 shots.
