Colorado Eagles News Release
SAN DIEGO, CA. - Colorado goaltender Pavel Francouz stopped all 24 shots he faced to collect his third shutout of the season, while forward Domenic Toninato netted the game-winning goal, as the Eagles defeated the San Diego Gulls 1-0 on Friday. The victory extends Colorado's winning streak to a season-high five games and also pulls the Eagles within four points of second place in the Pacific Division.
After a scoreless first period that saw the Eagles kill off a pair of San Diego powerplays, the stalemate would continue into the middle frame. Colorado would shut down the Gulls third power play of the contest and outshoot San Diego 13-7 in the second period, but neither team would be able to find the back of the net. Glass highlighted the second stanza with a save on a breakaway for Eagles forward Max McCormick late in the period.
Francouz and company would continue to keep the Gulls from lighting the lamp in the early stages of the third period and they would be rewarded for their efforts in the offensive zone. With Kale Kessy and Corey Tropp serving matching minors for roughing, Colorado would take advantage of the 4-on-4 hockey when David Warsofky fired a shot from the blue line that would be tipped by Toninato into the back of the net. The goal was Toninato's 10th of the season and gave the Eagles a 1-0 edge with 7:25 remaining in regulation.
As the final minutes ticked down, Colorado would kill off San Diego's fourth power play of the night, forcing the Gulls to pull Glass in favor of the extra attacker. The move would not lead to a goal and the Eagles would hold on for the 1-0 victory.
Colorado outshot the Gulls 28-24 and finished the night going a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
Colorado returns to action when the Eagles face the San Diego Gulls on Saturday, March 9th at 8:00pm MT at Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California.
