April 26, 2013 - Eastern League (EL1)
Altoona Curve News Release

CURVE, Pa. - The Curve were blitzed by the second-best offense in the Eastern League in a, 7-3, loss to the Erie SeaWolves on Friday night. Erie pounded out seven runs on 14 hits to hand Casey Sadler (3-1) his first Double-A loss. Altoona did get a home run from Andrew Lambo in the loss, which ran his on-base streak to 21 games and his hitting streak to 11 games.

Erie's offense scored early and often off Sadler, who failed to complete five innings for the first time in his short Double-A career. The Curve trailed 3-0 before they scored their first two runs of the game in the third to pull within one. Carlos Paulino walked to start the inning and scored two batters later when Gift Ngoepe smoked a triple to right-center. With Ngoepe out at third, Matt Curry singled to right to bring him in and pull the Curve within one at, 3-2.

The Howlers went right back to work in the fourth, scoring an unearned run off Sadler to reclaim the two-run advantage. The Stillwater, Okla. native finished four innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits while walking two and striking out three.

Altoona grabbed three scoreless innings from Ethan Hollingsworth to stay in the game and actually once again pulled within one in the sixth when Lambo smashed the first pitch he saw from Robbie Weinhardt.

That was the last run the Curve scored on Friday night with Erie tacking on two more in the eighth and one in the ninth.

It was a strange game on Friday with the Curve, who entered the night having committed the fewest errors in the league, making two errors. The SeaWolves were also able to steal four bases on the night with three coming from shortstop Hernan Perez.

Andy Vasquez extended his hitting streak to six games on Friday with a 1-for-4 day.

Altoona (9-12) will now look to even the series with Erie (11-8) in the 6 p.m. Saturday night affair from Peoples Natural Gas Field. We'll have another postgame fireworks show in store for the 1,000th home game in franchise history. As an added bonus, the first 1,000 fans that enter the game on Saturday night will receive a 1000th home game commemorative poster courtesy of theprinters.com. Other plans scheduled for the 1,000th home game will be a Top-10 home game moments video board tribute as well as a salute to season-ticket holder Susan Mielnik for attending all 1000 regular season home games.

It's also World War II History Night at the ballpark with a pair of battle reenactments scheduled to take place before and after Saturday night's game performed by the Blair County Historical Society. There will also be World War II veterans on hand who will participate in a special honor guard with the re-enactors. The performances are part of World War II history weekend in Altoona with reenactments and events at Baker Mansion grounds on Saturday and Sunday.

On the mound for the Curve in the second game of the series will be RHP Jameson Taillon (2-1, 2.63), who is looking to rebound from his worst start in Double-A his last time out. He'll be opposed in the game by SeaWolves starter Kyle Lobstein (1-2, 4.66), who beat the Curve on Opening Night in Erie on April 4.

Gates swing open at 5 p.m. while airtime on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. For tickets and more information, fans can call 877.99.CURVE, visit AltoonaCurve.com or stop by the box office windows at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
