Ramirez Dazzles in Debut, Thunder Win 6-3

TRENTON, NJ - J.R. Murphy paced the Thunder offense in their 6-3 series-opening victory against the Portland Sea Dogs Friday night.

J.R. Murphy's 3-for-4 performance included a pair of doubles, an RBI and two runs scored. In his previous three games Murphy was a combined 0-for-11, and the 3-for-4 performance raises his average from .297 to .323 on the season.

Jose Ramirez- touted as the No. 16 prospect in the New York Yankees system according to Baseball America- made his Double-A debut for the Thunder in front of 4,497 fans on a cloudless night at ARM & HAMMER Park. After spending the first three weeks of the season on the disabled list, Ramirez tossed 4.0 shutout innings in relief of starting pitcher Nik Turley. Flashing a fastball that touched 95 MPH, Ramirez struck out six batters in the outing, including four consecutive batters at one point.

Turley gets the win for his second win of the season after allowing three runs in 5.0 innings. His record now sits at 2-1 on the season.

Trenton continues their seven-game homestand at ARM & HAMMER Park with the middle game of a three-game series against the Portland Sea Dogs at 7:05 p.m. RHP Zach Nuding (0-2, 1.83) will start for the Thunder against RHP Anthony Ranaudo (2-0, 1.15) for the Sea Dogs.
