First Place 'Wolves Take Down Curve

The first place SeaWolves won their third straight game on Friday night at People's Natural Gas Field as they took down the Altoona Curve 7-3 in the series opener.
The SeaWolves jumped ahead in the top of the first against Curve starter Casey Sadler. Hernan Perez singled to right with one out and was tripled home by Ramon Cabrera for a 1-0 lead.
In the second, Jamie Johnson with two outs and was tripled home by Marcus Lemon for a 2-0 advantage.
Erie added to its lead in the third. Wade Gaynor and Tyler Collins each singled putting two on base for James McCann. McCann riffled a bullet off of Sadler that trickled into right field, plating Gaynor for a 3-0 lead.
The Curve got on the board in the last of the third off of Erie starter Victor Larez. Carlos Paulino led off with a walk and he scored on a one-out Gift Ngoepe triple making it 3-1. Matt Curry singled home Ngoepe to cut the Erie lead down to a run at 3-2.
The SeaWolves went back ahead by two in the top of the fourth. Johnson led off with a single and moved to second. He scored on a two-out Perez knock making it 4-2.
Altoona cut it back to a one-run game in the sixth as Andrew Lambo homered off of reliever Robbie Weinhardt making it 4-3.
In the bottom of the seventh, Paulino led off with a triple off of Weinhardt to put the tying run at third. Weinhardt then struck out Andy Vasquez and Matt Crouse finished the inning striking out Ngoepe and Curry, keeping the tying run on base.
Erie added insurance runs in the eighth and ninth innings. Johnson singled with one out and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Johnson scored a Daniel Fields single making it 5-3. Perez followed with his third hit of the game, plating Fields for a 6-3 lead.
In the ninth, Gaynor led off with a double, moved to third on a fly out and scored on a McCann sacrifice fly making it 7-3.
Crouse earned the save retiring all eight batters he faced, including three strikeouts.
Larez (3-0) earned the win allowing two runs on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts in five innings. He has won three straight decisions.
Erie is now a season-high three games over .500.
The SeaWolves look for their second four-game winning streak on Saturday night in Altoona at 6:00 p.m. Kyle Lobstein (1-2, 4.66 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Jameson Taillon (2-1, 2.63 ERA).
