ABOUT LAST NIGHT: In a high-scoring affair on Friday night, the Redbirds used nine unanswered runs over the first four innings to hold off the Indians, 11-8. Memphis built a 9-0 cushion thanks to three consecutive three-run innings in the second, third and fourth. Indianapolis pitcher Zach Matson (L, 0-1) surrendered two singles in the second as an opener before exiting the ballgame, and reliever Travis MacGregor - making his Triple-A debut - served up a three-run homer to Devlin Perez moments later. Memphis' Clint Coulter added a three-run homer off John O'Reilly in the fourth to bury Indy in a seemingly insurmountable hole. The Indians fought back with a six-run burst in the fifth to cut the deficit to 9-6 courtesy of five hits and two walks. A Josh Bissonette bases-clearing double highlighted the frame in which Indy scored five of its six runs with no outs. Kyle Ryan (W, 5-1) came in relief to put the rally to a halt. After the Redbirds tacked on an insurance run in the sixth, Ji-Hwan Bae got one back for the Indians - his second of three hits on the night - with an RBI single to bring them within three runs again. Each team plated one run in the eighth before Memphis closed out its series-tying victory.

COME ONE, COME ALL: The Indians welcomed 12,412 fans to Victory Field on Friday night for the organization's largest home crowd since the final home game of the 2019 season -- Aug. 31 vs. Columbus (14,883). The single-game attendance of 12,412 was the fourth highest in all of Minor League Baseball this year, trailing only Buffalo (15,490), Albuquerque (15,190) and Louisville (13,050).

THE .500 SHIELD: The Indians enter tonight's game with an even 34-34 record, which will mark the 21st time in 69 games that Indy enters play with a .500 record. Indy has been a season-high four games over .500 two times (6-2 following a win on 4/13 at St. Paul; 23-19 following a Game 1 win in a doubleheader on 5/25 at St. Paul). The Indians have slipped one game below .500 seven times but have won the subsequent game every time to climb back to .500.

HULK SMASH: The Indians found themselves facing a 9-0 deficit midway through last night's game before erupting for six runs in the bottom of the fifth. Josh Bissonette provided the big blow in the inning with a three-run double. The bottom three batters in Indy's lineup (Taylor Davis, Jamie Ritchie, Bissonette) accounted for six of the club's eight RBI in the loss.

BAE ON BAE-SE: Ji-Hwan Bae tallied three hits and two RBI in five at-bats last night. He has reached base safely in 54 of his 63 games played this season. After batting .322 (29-for-90) over 24 games in May, Bae is having another strong month with a .337 clip (28-for-83) in 20 June contests. The 22-year-old ranks among league leaders in runs scored (4th, 48), hits (5th, 74), triples (T-5th, 4), average (6th, .308) and stolen bases (T-8th, 15).

SWAG: Travis Swaggerty has hit safely in 22 of his last 26 games with a .337 average (34-for-98), 12 extra-base hits (five doubles, three triples, four home runs) and 22 RBI dating back to May 17. In June, he has hit safely in 11 of 13 games, four of which have been multi-hit contests, with a .300 average (15-for-50). In the middle of his hot streak, Swaggerty made his MLB debut with the Pirates and recorded his first big-league hit.

NOTHING AGAINST NOE: Reliver Noe Toribio was transferred from Double-A Altoona to Indy on Tuesday and threw 1.1 scoreless innings of relief Thursday night in his Triple-A debut. Toribio threw just five of 17 pitches for strikes and stranded three baserunners (one hit batter, two walks). The Dominican Republic native excelled with the Curve this year, going 3-1 with a 1.85 ERA (8er/39.0ip) and 1.08 WHIP in 15 games (one start). He also only issued 13 walks in his 39.0 innings of work, equating to a 3.00 BB/9.0ip ratio.

HAPPY HOMECOMING: Eric Stout, who attended Butler University from 2012-14 and compiled an 11-12 record, 5.91 ERA (100er/152.1ip) and 120 strikeouts in 28 games (27 starts) in his sophomore and junior seasons, made his Indians debut Thursday night and tossed a scoreless sixth inning. Prior to joining Indy's roster, he had spent most of the 2022 season with Triple-A Iowa, where he compiled a 2-2 record, 3.94 ERA (13er/29.2ip) and 48 strikeouts in 16 games (one start).

YOSHI, YOSHI, YOSHI: Yoshi Tsutsugo played seven innings Thursday night and laced three singles and walked in four plate appearances before departing. In his first rehab appearance with Indy on Tuesday, he walked once in two plate appearances. The three-hit game for the 30-year-old was his first since going 3-for-4 on Aug. 9, 2021 with Triple-A Oklahoma City at Albuquerque.

TONIGHT: The Indians look to snap a two-game skid while regaining the series lead in Game 5 against Memphis at 7:05 PM ET. Tonight is Indianapolis' first of five MARVEL Super Hero Nights for the season, with Avengers characters Thor, Iron Man, Black Widow, The Incredible Hulk and Captain America all in attendance. Indy will wear Avengers jerseys which will be auctioned off in-park with all proceeds benefiting Indianapolis Indians Charities. RHP Mike Burrows, who is Pittsburgh's No. 11 prospect (MLB Pipeline), is set to make his second Triple-A start and first at Victory Field. He will be opposed by LHP Matthew Liberatore, who is rated as St. Louis' No. 3 prospect (MLB Pipeline). The 22-year-old earned the win against Indy on June 18, 2021 at Victory Field with 5.0 innings of one-run ball in a 10-1 Redbirds triumph.

THIS DATE IN 2005: In front of 10,300 fans at Fifth Third Field, southpaw Zach Duke improved to 12-3 on the season in an 8-3 win over Toledo. He struck out seven batters over 7.2 innings and allowed three earned runs on seven hits. It was his last appearance with Indianapolis that season before he had his contract selected by Pittsburgh. Duke went 8-2 with a 1.81 ERA over 14 starts down the stretch for the Buccos.
