Buffalo Bisons News Release

BUFFALO, NY - After a thrilling walk-off, extra-inning win the night before, the Buffalo Bisons dropped the penultimate game of the series to the St. Paul Saints 7-4 on Saturday night from Sahlen Field.

Thomas Hatch got the start for the Herd and went 5.2 innings, allowing four runs off eight hits while walking two and striking out five. Two runs came to score in the fourth off an Elliot Soto single, before allowing solo homers to Michael Helman and John Andreoli in the sixth.

Opposing Hatch was veteran righty and former Blue Jay Aaron Sanchez, who allowed three runs over five innings, though he did walk five batters on the night.

The speed of Chavez Young was on full display yet again after scoring the winning run last night, as he swiped three bases on the night and scored another pair of runs, one of which saw him tag and score from third on a pop up to the second baseman.

The Herd would score again in the following frame when Nathan Lukes hit his sixth home run of the season, but stranded six baserunners over the next three innings.

St. Paul loaded the bases with nobody out to start the eighth, knocking Mike Ellenbest out of the game after 1.1 innings of relief. Kyle Johnston then came on to try and escape the jam and minimized the damage, as just one additional run crossed the plate to make it a 5-3 game.

Helman would hit his second home run of the night in the ninth, before Curtis Terry tripled and scored to put the Saints up by four.

Despite a solo homer by Samad Taylor in the bottom half - his ninth of the season and fourth of the series - Juan Minaya would finish things up shortly after to end the ballgame.

The Bisons and Saints will conclude this series tomorrow afternoon, with Nick Allgeyer set to take the mound for the Herd against righthander Mario Sanchez. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. EST.
