
Falter, Pigs Electric in Win Over Norfolk

(Allentown, PA) - Lehigh Valley IronPigs (39-32) starting pitcher Bailey Falter (4-0) dropped the hammer on the Norfolk Tides (34-37) on Saturday evening. He allowed just one run over six innings while giving up just one hit with five strikeouts to lead the 'Pigs to a 9-1 win.
The only run Falter allowed was in the top of the first inning. Kyle Stowers singled on a sharp line drive to right fielder Dalton Guthrie that scored Terrin Vavra. Norfolk would take a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the first inning.
Dalton Guthrie tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning when he hit a home run against Chris Vallimont. The home run for Guthrie was his second of the season. The 'Pigs broke open the game in the bottom of the third inning as they scored five runs to take a 6-1 lead.
Guthrie started the scoring in the inning with an RBI double that scored Mickey Moniak. Dustin Peterson followed with an RBI double that scored Guthrie. Rafael Marchan hit a sacrifice fly that scored Peterson and Scott Kingery hit a two-run single that scored Jorge Bonifacio and Will Toffey. Vallimont left the game after allowing six runs through four innings pitched.
Lehigh Valley extended their lead to 8-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning as Guthrie hit a two-run single against Tim Naughton that scored Bonifacio and Kingery. Darick Hall hit an RBI single against Blaine Knight in the bottom of the seventh inning to extend the 'Pigs lead to 9-1.
Ofreidy Gomez made his IronPigs debut in the top of the seventh inning. He pitched a scoreless inning of relief. Braeden Ogle and Nick Duron each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
The IronPigs and Norfolk Tides wrap up their series on Sunday afternoon. First pitch on is at 1:35 p.m.
