ABOUT LAST NIGHT: Behind a stellar outing from starting pitcher Bryse Wilson, the Indians won Game 1 of the six-game series over Memphis last night, 7-4. After Luken Baker homered to give the Redbirds a 1-0 lead in the second inning, major league rehabbers Josh VanMeter and Kevin Newman teamed up to even the score in the third, with Newman driving in VanMeter on a long double to left field. Ji-Hwan Bae ended the tie in the sixth when he sent home Mason Martin on a double to the opposite field. In the following frame, the Indians broke open the game with five runs in the seventh. Bins sparked the offense with a leadoff double and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Jason Delay that forced a throwing error. VanMeter singled in a run before back-to-back walks loaded the bases, and Rodolfo Castro and Travis Swaggerty drove in a run apiece. Paul DeJong launched a two-run homer in the eighth and an RBI triple by Ben DeLuzio cut Indy's lead, but the Redbirds couldn't overcome the deficit.

DAZZLE 'EM: Bryse Wilson dazzled in his return to Indy's starting rotation last night, fanning a season-high 10 batters en route to earning his third win in three Triple-A starts this season. He surrendered just one run over 7.1 innings and was charged with another after exiting the game in the eighth, marking his third consecutive quality start in Triple-A appearances of June. He has earned the win in three of four starts with the Indians, compiling a 3.08 ERA (9er/26.1ip). All four of his starts with Indianapolis this season have been 6.0-plus innings, with the last three marked as three of just four quality starts by Indians pitchers this season (also: Chase De Jong, 4/13 at St. Paul). He is the first Indians batter to throw over 7.0 innings since James Marvel tossed 8.0 on 10/1/21 vs. Nashville and the first pitcher to fan double-digit batters since Chase De Jong fanned 10 on Opening Night of 2021 (5/4 at Iowa). It was the third double-digit strikeout game of his career and the last since he fanned a career-high 13 on 8/15/18 with Gwinnett vs. Louisville.

STARTERS SLING IT: Indians starting pitchers lead all Triple-A teams with a 3.82 ERA (92er/216.2ip) with the least amount of innings pitched this season, led by Bryse Wilson as the pitcher to toss the most innings in starts this season. Indians starting pitchers have the third-least innings pitched, behind Single-A Rancho Cucamonga (183.2ip) and High-A Great Lakes (214.2ip) this season. On the flip side, Indians relievers rank 12th among all 30 Triple-A teams with a 4.50 ERA (171er/341.2ip).

MULTI-BAE: With eight multi-hit contests in 17 June games, Ji-Hwan Bae is hitting .329 (23-for-70) for the month. He leads the Indians with 17 multi-hit games this season while his .304 average (69-for-227) leads all Indians batters. Last night, Bae went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Since his average bottomed out at .208 following an 0-for-4 performance on April 26 at Iowa, he has hit .333 (58-for-174) with a .962 OPS in his last 44 games. He is currently ranked among International League leaders in runs scored (2nd, 48), triples (T-5th, 4), hits (T-6th), stolen bases (T-7th, 15) and average (9th).

TONIGHT: The Indians will begin a six-game series vs. the Memphis Redbirds tonight at 7:05 PM ET at Victory Field for their second regular-season series against the franchise in history. Last season, they went 5-1 against the St. Louis Cardinals affiliate in the Circle City. Tonight, Bryse Wilson will take the mound for the Indians against MLB rehabber Jordan Hicks.

THE YOUNG BUC WAVE: With the first-time callups of Canaan Smith-Njigba (6/13), Jason Delay (6/14), Cam Vieaux (6/17) and Bligh Madris (6/20) in the span of the last week, nine Indians have now been added to Pittsburgh's active roster ahead of their anticipated major league debuts this season, surpassing last season's total of six. Less than halfway through the 2022 campaign, it is the most MLB first-time callups the Indians have had in a single season since having nine members of their 2019 squad promoted to debut in the big leagues. The most callups the Indians have had in a single season since their most recent affiliation with Pittsburgh began in 2005 came in 2016 when 12 players came through Indianapolis en route to an MLB debut with the Bucs.

WELCOME BACK: The Indians announced today that Eric Stout has been activated on their roster after being traded from Chicago (NL) to Pittsburgh yesterday. The southpaw attended Butler University from 2012-14 and compiled an 11-12 record, 5.91 ERA (100er/152.1ip) and 120 strikeouts in 28 games (27 starts) in his sophomore and junior seasons. During his final collegiate campaign, he led the Bulldogs and finished tied for seventh in the BIG EAST Conference with 13 starts. He also ranked fourth in the conference with 64 strikeouts. After being selected by Kansas City in the 13th round (393rd overall) of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft, he made his way through the minor league ranks en route to his major league debut with the Royals on April 25, 2018 vs. Milwaukee. He has spent most of the 2022 season with Triple-A Iowa, where he compiled a 2-2 record, 3.94 ERA (13er/29.2ip) and 48 strikeouts in 16 games (one start). Stout has appeared in the Royals, Padres, Reds, Marlins and Cubs organizations in his career before landing with the Pirates.

Pope's homer ignites a two-run game-winning rally in the bottom of the ninth. Post scored the game-winning run later in the inning on a double Joe Macko. Ray Narleski got the win.
