
Norfolk Rallies to Beat Lehigh Valley

(Allentown, PA) - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (37-31) had an early 5-0 lead that saw go away as the Norfolk Tides (33-35) won 7-6 on Wednesday evening. The Tides ended up scoring two runs in the top of the ninth inning to preserve the 7-6 win.
Spenser Watkins pitched one scoreless inning for Norfolk before giving way to Bruce Zimmerman in relief. Lehigh Valley scored five runs against Zimmerman in the bottom of the second inning to take a 5-0 lead. Rafael Marchan and Will Toffey hit back-to-back RBI doubles. Drew Maggi followed up with an RBI single that scored Toffey. Daniel Robertson scored on a balk by Zimmerman and Dalton Guthrie hit an RBI single.
Cristopher Sanchez pitched four scoreless innings. Dillon Maples entered the game in the top of the fifth inning and gave up a two-run single to Shed Long Jr. that cut Lehigh Valley's lead to 5-2. Jakob Hernandez followed with a scoreless inning of relief before Aaron Barrett gave up a run to Anthony Bemboom in the top of the sixth inning.
The Tides tied the game at 5-5 in the top of the eighth inning as Jonathan Arauz hit a two-run single against Jake Newberry. Lehigh Valley was able to regain the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning as Guthrie walked with the bases loaded and scored Robertson.
Norfolk scored two runs against Braeden Ogle in the top of the ninth inning to take a 7-6 lead. Jordan Westburg tied the game with an RBI double and Gunnar Henderson hit a sacrifice fly to give the Tides the lead.
The IronPigs and Norfolk Tides continue their series on Thursday evening. First pitch on is at 7:05 p.m.
