RED WINGS NOTES
GETTING OFF ON THE WRONG FOOT: The Wings lose their first home game since June 5, falling to Syracuse 3-2...the Red Wings are now 4-8 on the year in series openers, having lost four straight...the Wings are just 2-4-1 in series when they lose the first game (4-0 when they win the series opener).
STEVENSON SMASHES SYRACUSE: Tonight, outfielder Andrew Stevenson went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in the first inning...Stevenson has a hit in seven straight games and 10 of his last 11...the seven-game streak is his second-longest of the year (9 G, 5/21-6/2)...the lefty is 16-for-44 (.316) over his eleven-game stretch...his stolen base (18) in the first inning moves him into fourth place in the International League in the category.
THE SYRACUSE ASSASSIN STRIKES AGAIN: RHP Logan Verrett continued his dominance against the Mets' top affiliate Tuesday night, going 5.2 innings while allowing just one run on four hits and striking out six...after tonight's outing, Verrett now has 901.2 innings pitched in his professional career (150 innings pitched in MLB, 751.2 in MiLB)...Syracuse came into tonight's game averaging 8.4 runs per game over their last nine...Verrett has 21 innings pitched against Syracuse this year, allowing just seven earned runs, good for a 3.00 ERA versus the Mets this year...the veteran has recorded six strikeouts in each of his three June outings, good for a 10.1 K/9 this month.
WAKE UP JOEY: After starting June batting .434 (10-for-23) with three homers and five RBI, first baseman Joey Meneses has gone 7-for-his-last-45 (11 games) and is 2-for-his-last-21...Meneses went 1-for-4 tonight with an RBI single to score LF Andrew Stevenson in the first...the Wings are 2-9 during Meneses's stretch, having a 35-20 record prior to the stretch...Meneses holds the International League lead in hits (76), second in home runs (15), and is batting .303 (76-for-251) despite the cold streak.
BISONS NOTES
BRODEY'S BOMB: The nine-hole hitter, Quinn Brodey, went 1-for-4 tonight with the game-winning home run in the top of the 7th off of LHP Sam Clay...the Mets were down 2-1 before the 26-year-old hit a two-run shot to give Syracuse a 3-2 lead...the home run was just his fourth of the year...in the bottom of the 7th, leadoff batter Andrew Stevenson hit a two-out single to left field with runners on first and second when Brodey fielded the ball and threw out designated hitter Taylor Gushue at home to end the inning.
