Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - The Durham Bulls (36-32) defeated the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (37-31) 3-2 on Wednesday afternoon to even the six-game set at one game apiece at 121 Financial Park.
After three scoreless innings, the Bulls got on the board on a solo shot from 2B Xavier Edwards. In the seventh, 1B Jim Haley would go yard on a two-run blast for the 3-0 lead. After seven scoreless innings, Jacksonville put up two runs in the eighth behind RBI singles by RF Peyton Burdick and DH Lorenzo Quintana to trim the deficit to one. In the bottom of the ninth, needing at least one run to extend the game, the Jumbo Shrimp were unable to generate a hit, securing the Durham win.
The story of the game for Durham was pitching. Easton McGee got the start on the mound for the Bulls, throwing six scoreless innings, allowing two hits with four strikeouts as he picked up the win. Durham relief pitcher Javy Guerra came in the ninth inning and picked up the save with a perfect ninth, while Jacksonville pitcher Max Meyer picked up the loss.
The Bulls continue their two-week road trip on Thursday evening for game three against the Jumbo Shrimp. RHP Tommy Romero is expected to start for Durham and RHP Elieser Hernandez is scheduled to start for Jacksonville. First pitch is slated for 7:05 pm.
Following their 12-game road trip, Durham returns home on Monday, July 4 to start a six-game series against the Memphis Redbirds, the Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. First pitch of that contest is set for 6:35pm.
Tickets for that game and all remaining 2022 home dates can be purchased at DurhamBulls.com/tickets.
