Game Day Preview: Pats Continue Three in Three Weekend in Prince Albert Saturday

The Regina Pats (3-10-0-0) hit the road Saturday to take on the number one team in the CHL in the Prince Albert Raiders (14-1-0-0). Puck drop is at 7 p.m. at the Art Hauser Centre. The Pats are coming off an 8-5 loss at home to the Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday. The Raiders have been off since Wednesday when they beat the Warriors in Moose Jaw 4-2. Tonight is the third of six meetings between the Pats and Raiders this year, Prince Albert is 2-0-0-0 in the season series. The Lead Up: Pats fall 8-5 In back and forth affair with Medicine Hat Friday

The Regina Pats fell 8-5 on home ice Friday night in a back and forth affair with the Medicine Hat Tigers. The Tigers opened the scoring in the first on the powerplay at the 11:05 mark. Jake Leschyshyn responded for the Pats with his team leading sixth, 1:36 later to make it 1-1. Medicine Hat added another on the powerplay late in the frame and led 2-1 at the break. In the second, the Pats got a tying goal from Liam Schioler, his first, and then 41 seconds later Duncan Pierce scored his third of the year and Regina took their first lead at 3-2. The Tigers came back with four goals in the final 6:16 of the period and led 6-3 after 40 minutes. In the third, Medicine Hat got the lead to 7-3 before Aaron Hyman and Nick Henry each scored their fourth goals of the season to get the Pats within two at 7-5 but Medicine Hat scored into the empty net late to make it 8-5 and that was the final. The Pats and Tigers tied 36-36 on the shot clock, the Regina powerplay was one for two and the penalty kill four for six. Austin Pratt, Jake Leschyshyn, Duncan Pierce and Koby Morrisseau led Regina with two-point nights, while Max Paddock and Dean McNabb combined to make 28 saves.

A long time coming

Pats overage defenceman Liam Schioler scored the second goal of his Western Hockey League career on Friday night against Medicine Hat. The marker tied the game 2-2 in the second period. Schioler scored his first goal in Prince Albert in December of 2016 as part of an 8-0 win over the Raiders. Schioler, from Winnipeg, was drafted in the second round of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft and has played in 183 games in Regina, recording 26 points, a plus-11 rating and 156 penalty minutes.

Multi-Point Night

Pats forward Duncan Pierce recorded the first multi-point game of his WHL career on Friday against the Tigers. The 18-year-old picked up a goal and an assist on one shift in the span of 41 seconds. Pierce, a listed player from Winnipeg, is playing his first full season in Regina. He has scored three goals and has one assist in 12 games.

Career Hyman

Pats defenceman Aaron Hyman has set a new career high for goals in a season with four through his first 13 games of 2018-19. The 20-year-old's previous career high was three, set last season between Regina and Seattle. From Calgary, Alberta Hyman leads all Pats defencemen with 11 points, which is good for 12th among all WHL rear-guards.
