Edmonton, Alta. - The Saskatoon Blades failed to take advantage of what was expected to be a tired Edmonton Oil Kings team on Saturday night, instead being outworked resulting in a 5-2 loss at Rogers Place. Edmonton played Friday night in Cranbrook, B.C., and had a 7 hour bus ride home, but they didn't show any signs of fatigue outshooting the Blades 45-25. The loss is the Blades third straight game without a win leaving them at 8-5-2-0 on the season.

Dorrin Luding did his part in goal for the Blades, especially in the first period stopping 21/22 shots faced. The only goal allowed was a short-handed marker from the Oil Kings as captain and leading scorer Trey Fix-Wolansky set up a streaking Quinn Benjafield in the slot. Edmonton took the 1-0 lead and a 22-9 advantage on the shot clock into the first intermission.

The 20-year-old Benjafield doubled up the Edmonton lead on their first power play of the game 5:16 into the middle frame. Rookie import forward Vladimir Alistrov then increased the Oil Kings lead to 3-0 just as time expired on another Blades penalty with under five minutes left in the second period.

Finally the Blades would get on the board thanks to newly acquired Gary Haden who scored a short-handed goal of his own with 2:18 on the clock in the second.

However, the Oil Kings regained their three goal spread thanks to an accurate short-side wrist shot from Brett Kemp; his 8th goal of the season to make it 4-1. Gary Haden added his second of the night late in the game but it was too late as the Oil King put the final nail in the coffin with an empty net goal courtesy of Trey Fix-Wolansky in the last minute.

Saskatoon's power play struck out again going 0/3 in the game while the penalty kill went 3/4 with a short-handed goal.

The Blades will travel south for their final stop on the road trip in Calgary, a 4:00pm puck drop on Sunday afternoon at the Scotiabank Saddledome against the Calgary Hitmen.
