Wylie's OT Winner Lifts Tips

October 27, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Everett Silvertips News Release

MOOSE JAW, Sask. - Wyatte Wylie scored the game winner 21 seconds after the opening face-off and the Everett Silvertips outlasted the Moose Jaw Warriors in a 2-1 overtime victory before 3,117 fans at Mosaic Place on Friday in WHL action.

The Tips, guaranteed a winning record on their seven-game road trip, improved to 4-2 in six games since departing downtown Everett and also a 3-2 record through five games against host East Division clubs. Sahvan Khaira scored a crucial goal for the Tips to tie the game late in the second period, and Kindopp set up Wylie for the winner on a two-on-one rush.

Dustin Wolf earned the win in net and lowered his goals-against-average to 1.80, best in the entire WHL.

UP NEXT: The Silvertips finish their seven-game road swing on Saturday night against the host Swift Current Broncos, at 6:00 p.m. PT (1380 AM / 95.3 FM / Tips App / WHL Live) in a rematch of the WHL Championship Series at Credit Union iPlex. The Tips return home after a seven-game road trip on Friday, Nov. 2 against the Tri-City Americans at 7:35 p.m. Tickets are on sale at www.everettsilvertips.com/tickets.

Tristan Langan hit double digits in goals for his overage season at 15:33 of the first period for a 1-0 lead, finishing Justin Almeida's post-to-post feed on a half open net.

Through the second period where the Tips outshot Moose Jaw, 8-5, both teams battled through a choppy rhythm and the Tips found a way to deliver an answer on Sahvan Khaira's game-tying goal with 3:13 left in the second period. Moments after the Warriors killed a penalty, Gianni Fairbrother slipped a pass to Khaira at center point, who deflected a shot off the Moose Jaw defense to tie the game at 1-1.

Wolf turned in two of his most impressive saves to preserve the tie in the third period, first stopping Langan's backhander at the doorstep with less than eight minutes left, and then getting a pad on Justin Almeida's backhander from a similar spot with over a minute left in regulation.
