Bouncing Back

Friday night's loss in Seattle was a cruel end to the Winterhawks' nine-game win streak as they fell 6-1 to the Thunderbirds. But the sun came up again on Saturday, and the Portland players know they have a fine opportunity in front of them to kick off another run of wins.

"Any time you have a game like that, you just kinda wanna learn from it and then let it go as soon as you can. Luckily we have a game Sunday to improve on that and see what we can do," said captain Gabe Klassen.

Fresh Foe

It's the season's first meeting between the Winterhawks and Giants after Vancouver took three of four against Portland in 2021-22.

Leading the way for Vancouver is import forward Samuel Honzek, a Slovakian sniper who leads the team with 13 goals and 17 assists for 30 points in 22 games this year. Honzek received an "A" rating from NHL Central Scouting in its preliminary watch list last month, signifying his expected first-round rating for the upcoming draft next summer.

Aside from Honzek, captain Zack Ostapchuk and fellow forward Ty Thorpe continue to help pace the Giants' attack while Mazden Leslie leads from the blue line and netminder Jesper Vikman provides a steady presence between the pipes.

Big Week Ahead

Portland's five-day road trip is finally coming to a close, but they'll want to end it on a high with two points in Langley to build momentum for a pair of home contests next week. They first get a shot at revenge against Seattle on Wednesday, hosting the T-Birds at 7:00 P.M., before the Fox 12/Les Schwab Tire Centers Toy Drive arrives at the VMC for a matchup against Victoria!

The comforts of home ice await, but the long ride back from B.C. sure would be smoother with two big points in tow. Let's Go Hawks!
