Green Bay Gamblers News Release
On Saturday (11/14), 5,777 came to the Resch Center to take part in the Green Bay Gamblers 4th Annual Military Night. The crowd was rewarded with a 2-0 victory by the home team. The game raised $25,000 for the local chapter of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Proceeds were raised through jersey and helmet auctions and game night sponsorships. Last season the Military Night raised $20,000 for the DAV.
"Recognizing the men and women of the United States Armed Forces is something the Green Bay Gamblers take great pride in," says team President Brendan Bruss. "Past or present they are all American heroes and it is our honor to present this game."
The team adorned military inspired helmets and jerseys. Each jersey featured an armed forces division on the back and the POW/MIA logo on each shoulder. The helmets were camouflaged and also had the POW/MIA logo.
During the 2nd intermission, Tundraland Home Improvements surprised Iraq veteran Mike Alsteen with a $20,000 bath redo. After his military service, Alsteen was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. As Alsteen and his family were at Lambeau Field, Tundraland Home Improvements went to his home and made his bathroom handicap accessible.
The crowd of 5,777 set a team record for single-game attendance in November. Through six home games the Gamblers per game average is 3,177, which ranks 4th in the 16-team United States Hockey League.
The Gamblers want to thank the presenting sponsor of Military Appreciation Night, Fox Valley Animal Referral Center. Others who made a financial contribution include; Buffalo Wild Wings, C & C Custom Builders, Certa Pro Painters, Commando Paint Ball, Conger ToyotaLift, Culver's, Disabled American Veterans, Eclipse Printing, Elite Home Services, Exhaust Pro's, Fly Me Flag, Green Bay Packers, Kaminski Dental, Menominee Tribal Enterprise, Mid State Supply, Midwest Dental, Packerland Heating & Cooling, Pizza Ranch, S & L Motors, School House, Sound Check, Vietnam Veterans of America, Wild West Studios, Young Smiles Pediatric Dental, WIXX, Y-100, Dan Parsley, Ken Tucker, Pat Mikesch, PMI Board of Directors, Scott Jewitt, Tim Poehling and Tom Vandersteen.
