Youngstown Phantoms News Release

YOUNGSTOWN, OH - Youngstown Phantoms Assistant Captain Chase Pearson has been named to the United States Junior Select Team that will compete in the 2015 World Junior A Challenge December 13-19 in Cobourg and Whitby, Ontario, Canada. The U.S. has won six of the last seven tournaments (2008-2010, 2012-14).

"Obviously whenever you get a chance to represent your country, you're going to be happy to go do it. When I got the call I was really excited," Pearson said.

This will be the sixth straight season that a member of the Youngstown Phantoms has been selected to play for the United States in the World Junior A Challenge. Pearson joins Scott Mayfield (2010), Chris Bradley (2011), Austin Cangelosi (2011, 2012) J.T. Stenglein (2012), and Kyle Connor (2013, 2014).

"I was fortunate to be selected in the NHL Draft last summer, and that wouldn't have happened without my teammates and coaching staff here in Youngstown. I think it really shows a lot about the organization, and how they've had so many draft picks and moved guys on to the next level," said Pearson.

Pearson, a 5th round draft pick of the Detroit Red Wings in 2015, will be one of four NHL Draft picks on the United States roster.

"It's always an honor to represent your country. Chase is one of the finest players in the USHL, he is a respectful young man, and we know he will do a great job. Our General Manager Jason Koehler does an outstanding job of player procurement, and having a Youngstown representative in that tournament for six straight seasons is a testament to his work," said Phantoms Head Coach John Wroblewski.
