Capitols Visit Green Bay Looking to Cool off Gamblers
November 17, 2015 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Madison Capitols News Release
Green Bay, WI - The Madison Capitols (6-7-0), who have lost each of their last four contests, will look to snap their skid on the road against the Green Bay Gamblers (8-5-1) on Tuesday night at the Resch Center. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
Coverage of the Capitols' game can be heard in its entirety on 106.7 FM, 1670 AM, The Zone, online at www.madcitysportszone.com, or on the TuneIn radio app on mobile devices and tablets.]
The night marks the second installment of the Wisconsin Cheese Cup season series, sponsored by the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board. Madison has had the better of Green Bay since its reestablishment into the USHL in 2014, winning seven of the first nine matchups between the clubs.
The Capitols took the 1-0 lead in the 2015-16 season series, defeating the Gamblers by a final of 6-4 on Home Opener night on Oct. 9 at the Alliant Energy Center. Four different Capitols had multi-point evenings, including Haralds Egle, Sam McCormick, and Charlie Gerard, who each registered a goal and an assist. Egle leads all USHL players with 12 assists entering play on Tuesday.
In net, after being bounced early on Friday in Dubuque, Garrett Metcalf responded remarkably, making 37 saves while taking a hard-luck 2-1 defeat on Saturday at home against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.
Despite sitting eight in the USHL's Eastern Conference standings, Madison still only trails second-place Green Bay by five points entering play this evening. Including tonight's matchup, Madison and Green Bay will square off five times before the New Year.
The Capitols will look to rediscover an offense that opened the season by scoring 27 goals in their first six games. In the last seven, however, Madison has only mustered 15 goals while enduring an 0-for-23 slump on the power play dating back to Oct. 16.
On the other side, Green Bay has been red-hot since their loss to Madison, going 8-2-0 in its last ten games, including a pair of impressive victories over Bloomington and Cedar Rapids last weekend. The Gamblers held two high-powered offenses to a combined one goal in the last 120 minutes.
The Capitols will then return home for a rematch with Cedar Rapids on Friday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. Friday's game will be the Capitols' second annual Stuff the Bus drive. Fans who donate non-perishable food items or household supplies to the River Food Pantry will receive a ticket to a future Capitols game.
Tickets to all upcoming Capitols home games can be purchased by calling (608) 257-CAPS or by visiting www.MadCapsHockey.com. A full promotional schedule can also be seen on the Capitols' web page under the Tickets tab.
