Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The Albuquerque Isotopes (28-29) added to their late inning heroics scoring four runs in the seventh to secure the 6-4 come-from-behind victory over the Memphis Redbirds (29-30) Monday night at Isotopes Park. John Gall went two-for-three and delivered a two-run double in the seventh that provided the ‘Topes their eventual winning runs.

The Isotopes scrapped to collect five hits in the first six innings, but in the seventh Albuquerque's bats exploded for four runs to take the lead. John Baker sparked the inning with a leadoff single to right field that set up pinch-hitter Chase Lambin, who hit a line-drive double to right field advancing Baker to third. With two men in scoring position, Robert Andino cleared the bases, doubling to right field to tie the game at three. Chris Barnwell extended the rally by hitting a soft fly to shallow center field for a single as Andino sprinted to third. Memphis reliever Jason Motte then threw a wild pitch that allowed Barnwell to dash to second, putting two men in scoring position for Gall, who capitalized by ripping a double to left field that plated Andino and Barnwell, giving the Isotopes a two-run lead, 5-3.

The ‘Topes added an insurance run in the eighth when Jai Miller crushed a solo homer over the center field fence to give the ‘Topes a three-run advantage, 6-3.

Memphis jumped out to an early lead in the top of the third when Jarrett Hoffpauir singled to left field and scampered to second on a single hit up the middle by Bryan Anderson. Brian Barden would advance Hoffpauir to third on a fly-out for Colby Rasmus, who plated Hoffpauir on a single to center field, giving the ‘Birds the early 1-0 lead. Chris Duncan added a single of his own to drive in Anderson for the early 2-0 lead.

Albuquerque responded in the fourth when Andrew Beattie hit a soft single to shallow center field for Miller, who added a single to center allowing Beattie to advance to third while Miller took second on the throw. Baker then lifted a sacrifice fly to left field that drove in Beattie for Albuquerque's initial run, cutting the lead to 2-1.

The ‘Birds answered back in the sixth as Cody Haerther cracked a line drive double to right-center field that set up Anderson who added a double to right-center field driving in Haerther as Memphis reclaimed its two-run lead, 3-1.

Isotopes starter Dallas Trahern threw six quality innings, scattering seven hits and allowing the only three runs the Redbirds would score. Again Albuquerque's bullpen would clamp down on the opposition as a trio of relievers; Ross Wolf, Randy Williams, and Marc Gwyn each had solid appearances along with holding Memphis scoreless until the ninth with the only blemish being a David Freese solo blast to right of Gwynn. The reliever settled down however, retiring the next three batters in order to earn his first save of the season and seal the 6-4 triumph.

Albuquerque will try to win their first series since the April 20-24 series against Nashville on Tuesday with right-hander Bobby Keppel (6-4, 5.62) taking the ball for the Isotopes against Memphis southpaw Jaime Garcia (1-2, 3.72). Game time is set for 12:05 PM at Isotopes Park. All the action can be heard on KTBL 1050-AM.

The ‘Topes will wrap up their eight-game homestand tomorrow with a business person's special, fans can enjoy $5 hair cuts from Supercuts with all proceeds benefiting Joy Junction. The ‘Topes will then travel to Nashville for a four-game series against the Sounds before returning to Albuquerque.
