Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

Brad Knox shut down Colorado Springs Tuesday night at Security Service Field to help Sacramento salvage the series with a 5-2 victory in front of 4,824 fans.

Knox (5-2) allowed two runs in 7.2 innings for the River Cats before being lifted with a runner on base in the eighth inning. He struck out six and allowed just four hits to pick up his fifth win of the season.

Colorado Springs starter John Koronka (5-3) allowed two runs before recording an out Tuesday, Cliff Pennington's lead-off double and Casey Rogowski's home run. The lefty recovered nicely from the rough start, keeping the Sky Sox in the game by not allowing another run to cross the plate through five innings.

His effort was rewarded when Jayson Nix took Knox deep in the third inning, tying the game at two.

But Koronka ran into more trouble with two outs in the sixth inning when his bases-loaded walk to Pennington pushed across the go-ahead run. Wes Bankston padded the lead for the River Cats with a two-run shot in seventh off relief pitcher Cedrick Bowers.

Jay Marshall recorded the final four outs of the game, earning his second save of the season.

Brad Hawpe, playing in his second game with the Sky Sox, went 0-for-3 with a strikeout and a walk.

The Sky Sox are off Wednesday before returning to action Thursday with the start of a four-game set against Salt Lake. Jason Hirsh (0-0, 3.00) will start the opener opposite Shane Loux (7-3, 4.46). The scheduled start time in 7:05 PM.
