Portland Beavers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - It's safe to say the Beavers are plenty fine with John Lindsey leaving town.

Lindsey belted a three-run homer, Angel Chavez was 4-for-5 with a double and a three-run blast, and Eric Stults delivered a solid starting effort as the Las Vegas 51s earned a series split by defeating Portland 6-1 with 7,578 on hand for the final installment of the Art & Science of Baseball School Days Tuesday afternoon at PGE Park..

Lindsey hit two home runs in the four-game series and is batting .362 with seven homers and 17 RBIs in 12 games against the Beavers (29-28) this season, with all but three of his 10 homers coming against them. His first-inning blast off starter Justin Germano flanked the 51s and Stults to a lead they would not relinquish.

Stults (4-6) took it from there, logging eight strikeouts and giving up just one run and three hits while allowing no walks over seven strong innings for the 51s (30-29).

Germano (0-1), meanwhile, was making his first start of the season for the Beavers after being designated for assignment by San Diego on May 22. The right-hander, who has started 45 games over four seasons with Portland, settled in after allowing a pair of singles and Lindsey's homer in the first, retiring 17 of the final 21 batters he faced in his six innings of work but suffering the loss nonetheless in his season debut for Portland.

Chip Ambres belted his team-leading 11th home run for the Beavers, who sustained their first losing homestand since mid-April.

Chavez dampened Portland's comeback thoughts with his three-run homer off reliever Edwin Moreno in the top of the ninth, and Matt Riley worked the final two innings to get his first save of the year.

The Beavers are off Wednesday and will begin a four-game series at Sacramento Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. The Sacramento series is part of a season-long, 12-game road trip for the Beavers, who are next at home on June 17.
