Lancaster Stormers News Release

For the third time since first arriving in Lancaster to begin the 2012 season, Blake Gailen is moving elsewhere.

The Barnstormers' first baseman/outfielder has been acquired by the Los Angeles Angels and assigned to Class AA Arkansas, it was announced.

Gailen was a late scratch from the lineup prior to the first game of Lancaster's doubleheader against the York Revolution on Tuesday evening at Santander Stadium.

The left-handed batter leaves the Barnstormers with a .248 average, seven homers and 28 RBI and has another home run pending in a suspended game from May 18. All seven of his home runs were hit at Clipper Magazine Stadium in 2015, and he leaves tied for second on the all-time Barnstormers career home run list, just two shy of Lance Burkhart's record of 61.

Gailen was the Atlantic League MVP in 2102, capturing the batting title at .338 with 22 homers and 89 RBI. He hit .288 with 11 homers and 52 RBI in 2013 before being picked up by the Toronto Blue Jays for their Class AAA team in Buffalo. Last year, around a lengthy stay in Tijuana, Gailen hit .350 with 18 home runs for Lancaster.

This will be his second time with the Angels. Los Angeles also picked him up from Lincoln of the American Association in 2011.

"He is very deserving of this opportunity," said manager Butch Hobson. "Obviously, this is a big loss for us, but we are happy for Blake to have this chance."

The Lancaster Barnstormers are entering their eleventh season as a member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Home games are played at Clipper Magazine Stadium in downtown Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Please call 717.509.HITS (4487) or visit LancasterBarnstormers.com for more information.
