Skeeters Sweep Away Bluefish for Season's First Sweep

SUGAR LAND, Texas. - The Sugar Land Skeeters earned their first sweep of the 2015 campaign, knocking off Bridgeport, 2-1, in front of 3,045 fans at Constellation Field on Wednesday. With the win, the Skeeters climb back up to the .500 mark on the season at 23-23 while the Bluefish drop to 18-26.

Bridgeport snapped Sugar Land starter, Josh Geer's scoreless inning streak in the top of the fourth. Welington Dotel hit a solo home run to left-center field, staking the Bluefish to a 1-0 lead. Geer's streak, lasting over his previous three starts, reached 14 innings before ending on the long ball.

Sugar Land wasted no time in launching a long ball of its own. Delwyn Young blasted a solo-shot to the Wells Fargo Picnic Plaza in left to tie the game at one in the bottom of the fourth. The blast was last year's MVP's fourth of the season and first in his last seven games.

The Skeeters produced a run in the bottom of the sixth, thanks to timely hits from the top of the order. Dustin Martin singled to shallow to right-center and advanced to second on a groundout by Young. Jeremy Barfield hit a slow roller through the left-side of the infield, allowing Martin to come in to score and give Sugar Land its first lead of the game, 2-1.

Geer was sensational in seven innings of work for the Skeeters and earned his first win in the Blue and Gold. The right-hander fanned eight while scattering six hits and surrendering just one run. The former pitcher for the San Diego Padres lowered his ERA to 1.78 on the season and 0.75 in his last four starts and recorded his third quality start of the season, leaving with a 2-1 lead in the eighth.

Derrick Loop earned a four-out save after inducing a lineout to third in the eighth and striking out the side in the ninth for his second save of the year. The bearded southpaw has set down 28 batters in a row over his last nine appearances.
