TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: The fourth of nine meetings and the third of four here. Richmond is 2-1vs. the Checkers, 2-0 at home. Lars Pettersen and Kerry Ellis-Toddington each have four points vs. the Checkers. Eduard Pershin and Kurt Seher have four vs. Richmond. Charlotte is 5-23 (21.7%) on the power play vs the ‘Gades. Clubs have combined for 24 goals in three games. The ‘Gades are in a fourth place tie with Reading in the Northeast Division, one point behind third place Roanoke. Charlotte is seventh in the Northeast, nine points behind sixth place Trenton.

LAST ACTION: The ‘Gades lost 4-2 last night here to Roanoke. Richmond jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a power play goal by Richard Pitirri. The Express scored three straight goals and led 3-1 late in the third. Jon Zion scored a power play goal to make it 3-2 but the Express scored an empty netter to close it out. Charlotte lost 4-2 at home to South Carolina last night. The Stingrays scored twice in the third period to snap a 2-2 tie. Dusty Jamieson scored both Checkers goals.

‘GADES NOTES: With last night's loss Richmond suffered back to back home games for the first time this season. The Renegades are winless in their last four games, their longest winless streak of the season. Richmond did snap a three game road regulation loosing streak with a 3-2 shootout loss at Greensboro Saturday. Jayme Filipowicz (St. John) and Brad Church (Cleveland) remain on AHL call-ups. Kerry Ellis-Toddington became the fifth ‘Gade to earn a AHL call-up when he was summoned to Cincinnati following Saturday's game. He played in one game with the Ducks and returned to Richmond. The ‘Gades had three players picked for January's ECHL All Star Game: Jamie Herrington, Jon Zion, and Dan Lombard. Starting last night the ‘Gades play 20 games in 38 days. Richmond suffered their first overtime/shootout loss of the year in eight tries Saturday at Greensboro. The ‘Gades activated Jonathan St. Louis from IR last night and placed Ryan Van Buskirk on 7-Day IR. Peter Hogan's three game scoring streak ended last night. The ‘Gades are 4 for their last 13 on the power play and 12 for their last 12 on the penalty kill. The ‘Gades lead the ECHL in fewest shots on goal allowed (28.9). Richmond is third in penalty killing (85.5%) and tied for first in shorthanded goals (8). Following tonight the ‘Gades play three in a row and five of the next six games on the road.

CHECKERS NOTES: Charlotte's three game winning streak ended last night. The Checkers had one All Star selection, rookie forward Takahito Suzuki. The Checkers play three games in three nights in three cities this week. Charlotte has used 33 players this season. The Checkers are fifth in the ECHL in shots against but 25th in goals against (3.8). Charlotte has used five different goaltenders in games this season.
