G-Braves Roll Tides, 7-1

NORFOLK, VA - For a second straight night, the pitching of the Gwinnett Braves was too much for the Norfolk Tides. And this time, the hitting came through as well. The G-Braves beat Norfolk 7-1 behind the pitching of veteran right-hander Todd Redmond and a 10-hit attack led by DH Joey Terdoslavich.

After a scoreless first inning, the G-Braves tagged Norfolk starter, lefty Chris George for three runs in the top of the second. First baseman Ernesto Mejia led off the inning with a single, extending his hitting streak to six games. Terdoslavich followed with a single, and, after one out, second baseman Josh Wilson singled to right, scoring Mejia for the first run. A ground out to first by shortstop Greg Paiml scored Terdoslavich for the second run, and Wilson would later score on a two-out single to center by leadoff batter Luis Durango. Gwinnett held a 3-0 lead at the middle of the second.

While Redmond was breezing through the Norfolk batting order, the G-Braves struck for four more runs in the top of the third. Mejia drew a two-out walk from George, and Terdoslavich followed with a two-run blast to left, the first Triple-A home run of his career. The homer put the G-Braves up 5-0. Catcher J.C. Boscan followed with a single and scored from first on a double by Wilson to make it 6-0. Wilson then scored on a single by Paiml to make it 7-0 after two and a half innings.

The only run the Tides could muster came off Redmond in the bottom of the fifth as second baseman Matt Antonelli led off with a single to left and scored on a double to the wall in right-center by catcher Chris Robinson.

Redmond (W, 1-0) worked six innings to get the win. He gave up four hits, allowing only one run while walking two and striking out seven. Lefty Dusty Hughes pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth with two strikeouts. Right-hander Jaye Chapman pitched a scoreless ninth with one walk and three strikeouts.

George (L, 0-1) suffered the loss for Norfolk in his first start of the season. He gave up nine hits and seven earned runs in three and a third innings of work with two walks and one strikeout. Out of the bullpen, right-handers Oscar Villarreal, Miguel Socolovich and Pat Neshek combined for five and two thirds innings of scoreless ball.

The G-Braves and Tides conclude the three-games series Wednesday afternoon in Norfolk, first pitch scheduled for 12:15 PM. Right-hander Erik Cordier (0-0, 0.00) gets his second start of the season for Gwinnett. Norfolk pitches right-hander Bill Bergesen (0-1, 12.46).
