Gwinnett Stripers News Release
LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - The Gwinnett Braves, in conjunction with the Atlanta Braves, have announced the addition of right-hander Carlos Fisher to the Gwinnett 25-man roster. Fisher was signed by the Braves as a minor league free agent out of the independent Atlantic League, where he was pitching for the Somerset Patriots.
Fisher, 31, went 0-0 with a 1.33 ERA (3 ER in 20.1 IP) over 20 relief outings with Somerset prior to being signed. It was his first stint in an independent league after spending the last nine seasons in affiliated baseball.
Originally selected by Cincinnati in the 11th round of the 2005 June free agent draft out of Lewis-Clark State College (Lewiston, ID), Fisher pitched in the Reds system for eight seasons from 2005-12. He logged 74 Major League games during that span, going 2-5 with a 4.74 ERA (52 ER in 98.2 IP) in stints in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
Fisher split the 2013 season between Double-A Midland (Oakland Athletics) and Double-A Montgomery (Tampa Bay Rays), going 1-2 with a 3.97 ERA (25 ER in 56.2 IP) in 42 relief appearances. He was granted free agency by the Rays on November 5, 2013.
The Gwinnett Braves and Louisville Bats play game two of the four-game series on Saturday night at Coolray Field, first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM. Left-hander Daniel Rodriguez (4-8, 4.83) is scheduled to start for the G-Braves, while right-hander Chien-Ming Wang (7-5, 3.57) will counter for the Bats. Tony Schiavone will have the play-by-play call beginning at 6:50 PM on WDUN.com, GwinnettBraves.com, Tune-In Radio and the MiLB First Pitch app. The game will also be televised on the MeTV network, WSB-TV Channel 2.2 with broadcasters Mike Morgan, Dave Lezotte and Van Earl Wright.
The first 1,000 fans in attendance on Saturday will receive the YP.com Coozie Giveaway. It's also "Clue Night" at the ballpark, as fans can help solve an old-fashioned murder mystery during the game.
