Durham Bulls News Release

DURHAM, N.C. - The Syracuse Chiefs sent 17 batters to the plate and scored 11 runs in the second inning en route to a 16-3 pummeling of the Durham Bulls Saturday night at the DBAP. The first six batters reached base in the second, and the Chiefs (45-30) had another string of six straight batters reach base later on in the inning, as Syracuse had 10 hits in the frame. Every batter reached base at least once, and five reached base twice in the 44-minute half inning. Eight batters scored, and three scored twice. Starter Alex Colome (3-1) started the night with a 0.67 ERA, but saw it rise by 2.56 in the second inning alone as he absorbed his first loss of the campaign by allowing nine runs in 1 1/3 innings.

It was the most runs allowed by the Bulls (43-34) in a single inning since at least 2005 and the most runs allowed by the team in a game since 2011 when they allowed 17 to Norfolk.

In his second start with Syracuse this season, James Simmons (1-0) allowed just five hits in seven innings while striking out five to earn his first career Triple-A victory.

Vince Belnome hit a two-run home run in the seventh for the Bulls, his fifth of the year.

The Bulls look to snap a season-long five-game losing streak on Sunday in a 5:05 p.m. start. RHP Jeremy Hellickson (0-2, 12.60) makes his third MLB injury rehab start for the Bulls against RHP Blake Treinen (3-0, 2.17) for the Chiefs.
