DIAMOND IN GAME 2: Southpaw Scott Diamond will briefly return to the rotation to make a spot start in Game 2. Diamond was moved to the bullpen after going 3-6, 7.32 ERA thru 11 starts this season . He made his first relief appearance since 7/27/08 w/ Myrtle Beach on 6/13 v. LHV (3.0 IP, 0 R, 0 H). Diamond had the highest ERA (7.32) & WHIP (1.75) among all qualifying pitchers in IL & had allowed the most ER (45) in IL when he made his 1st relief outing.
- Diamond started Opening Day in Buffalo on April 3 (L; 2.0 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 4 ER)...he became first LHP to start Opening Day for the Red Wings since Glen Perkins in 2008 and just the second in the last 20 years.
THE NEW GUY: The Red Wings added a reliever to the mix on Saturday when RHP Mark Hamburger was transferred to Rochester from Double-A New Britain where he was 0-0 with a save and a 3.60 ERA (4 ER/10.0 IP) in 6 outings. Hamburger began the season by serving a 50-game suspension for a second violation of a drug of abuse. The St. Paul, MN native spent all of 2013 pitching for the St. Paul Saints of the independent American Association where he went 6-8, 3.26 ERA in 21 starts. Hamburger was originally signed by the Twins as an undrafted free agent in 2007 but was traded to Texas in 2008 for LHP Eddie Guardado. Hamburger - who has pitched in 5 MLB games with TEX in 2011 - has also pitched in the San Diego and Houston organizations.

Over this 39-game stretch, only six times has a starter allowed more than 3 ER in a start. If you take out Scott Diamond's last 4 starts (16 ER in 20.2 IP), the rest of the starting rotation has pitched to a 2.41 ERA (53 ER/198.0 IP) since May 12. If you take out Diamond's starts on the year (3-6, 7.32 ERA in 11 GS), Wings starters are 25-15 with a 2.77 ERA (105 ER/340.2 IP) for the SEASON.
