Barnhart Comes Through with Huge Hit, Bats Win 5-4

Louisville Bats News Release
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Tucker Barnhart got the big hit for Louisville on Saturday that they lacked all night on Friday. With the Bats down 4-2 in the top of the ninth, he grounded a three-run double down the right-field line to give the Louisville Bats a 5-4 lead, the score they would ultimately win by.
The knock helped Barnhart extend his hitting streak to a personal season-high five games. The three RBI give him 16 on the year with Louisville.
Bats starter Chien-Ming Wang took the no decision for the Bats. Wang allowed four earned runs over 5.0 innings, walking four and striking out two. The four earned runs allowed ended Wang's string of seven-straight quality starts, a string in which he went 5-1.
Wang left the game down 4-0 and has now gotten just one run of support while he is in the game in his last three starts (18.1 total innings). Luckily for the Bats, however, the runs did come later.
Southpaw Daniel Rodriguez turned in another solid starting pitching performance for Gwinnett, but took the no decision. He went 6.2 innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits. He walked just one and struck out six, though he went home without the win.
James Hoyt surrendered the three-run double to Barnhart, but the runs belonged to Jorge Reyes. Reyes (0-2) suffered the loss after being charged for four earned runs. He allowed just one hit in his one inning of work, but walked four, three of which came around to score.
The Braves scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth on a Jose Constanza RBI single. On the play, Joey Terdoslavich slipped while rounding third and was ran down to end the inning, ending the threat and leaving two on base.
The Braves were able to add to their lead in the fifth with a two-run double by Mark Hamilton and an RBI hit by Ozzie Martinez, both with two outs, to go ahead 4-0.
Steve Selsky provided Louisville's first run of the series in the seventh, breaking a streak of 17 consecutive scoreless innings for the Bats offense since unloading on the Durham Bulls earlier this week.
Ruben Gotay supplied a pinch-hit RBI single in the ninth two batters before Barnhart stepped to the plate for his heroics.
The Bats won Saturday despite being outhit 10-6.
Pedro Villarreal (2-1), in his first game of the disabled list, earned the win with a perfect eighth. Justin Freeman tossed a perfect bottom of the ninth for his first save. Adam Russell pitched two scoreless innings in middle relief.
With the series tied at 1-1, the Bats and Braves meet again tomorrow at 2:05 p.m. at Coolray Field. Lefty David Holmberg (0-4, 7.39) goes for Louisville and will be opposed by Yunesky Maya (3-1, 2.21) for Gwinnett.
