Fury trade Brent Belecki to Richmond
January 10, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, MI.--- Presently riding the crest of a season's best 7-game winning streak with 6 of those triumphs earned through a recently-capped road trip, the defending Colonial Cup Champions of the United Hockey League, the Muskegon Fury, have effected a significant player roster move to stabilize their key goaltending position.
Today, the Fury Owner / President Tony Lisman, in concert with Director of Hockey Operations / Head Coach Todd Nelson, have announced that Muskegon has sent goaltender BRENT BELECKI to the Richmond RiverDogs in trade. In exchange, the Fury will be in receipt of a high second round selection, which Richmond had earlier acquired from the Kansas City Outlaws, in the upcoming March 2005 UHL North American Amateur Draft, as well as a roster player from the 2005-06 lineup of the RiverDogs.
Belecki, 27, is in his 7th pro season and was in his initial campaign under the employ of Muskegon. In 24- games with the Central Division and co-UHL league leading Fury, the Calgary, Alberta native had posted a sound and solid record of 24(12-8-3) with a 2.47 GAA, a .910 SPCT and 1-shutout. The one shutout came in his last official act with the Fury as the lithe-like net-minder blanked Elmira the past Saturday night, 5-0, earning the game's #1 Star with 24-saves. The new Richmond goalkeeper bowed out with the class and professionalism that have always personified his demeanor, approach and performance both on and off the ice.
This transaction became apparent when the Fury had earlier announced that their two-time Team MVP, UHL Goaltender of the Year and 2004 Colonial Cup III MVP SYLVAIN DAIGLE was returning to the club following a brief stint playing overseas in London, England. Daigle holds virtually every major goalkeeping record in Fury franchise history and ranks in the top five all-time in most categories in league annals.
Through this deal, Muskegon will be actually securing a top choice in the second round of the March Amateur Draft since Richmond, in essence, sent this pick, which it had previously obtained from Kansas City, to the Fury.
In addition, some time during the first-half of the 2005-06 season, the Fury will be entitled to a roster player from the RiverDogs.
As for Daigle, he is expected to mark his return to the Fury lineup this weekend when the Fury host Port Huron on Friday night and Missouri on Saturday night at Walker Arena with game time both nights, 7:30 pm.
This weekend, the Fury will salute and celebrate the distinguished career of their long-time captain Scott Feasby in the "Scott Feasby Retirement Party Weekend" with his famous #20 jersey officially being retired.
