
Fuller, Navarro power Kernels past Whitecaps, 7-3

April 25, 2008 - Clay Fuller and Efren Navarro combined for five hits and five RBI as the Cedar Rapids Kernels took game one of a three game series from the West Michigan Whitecaps, 7-3, on Friday night at Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Navarro finished the night 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored and Fuller had a single and a triple along with his 3 RBI. Andrew Romine was 1 for 3 with a stolen base and two runs scored and Cody Collet drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.
Kernels starter Trevor Reckling (2-0) held West Michigan to two runs (one earned) on six hits and struck out two over five innings to get the win. Michael Davitt scattered three hits over three innings of relief and Chris Chambers allowed a hit in an inning of work.
West Michigan starter Lauren Gagnier (0-2) gave up seven runs (five earned) on six hits over 4.2 innings to take the loss.
With the win, the Kernels improve to 11-9 on the season as West Michigan drops to 12-8.
Game two of this series is Saturday afternoon at 2 pm. It is Arthritis Awareness Day at the stadium along with Summit school day. Gates open at 1 pm and tickets are available on-line at www.kernels.com
