
Bees Lose Series Opener Against South Bend

Davenport, IA (April 24, 2008) - The Burlington Bees opened a six-game home Friday night at Community Field but lost their third game in a row. South Bend scored three runs in the top of the first inning, led throughout and eventually won 8-4.
Alex Caldera got the start for the Bees and was not as commanding as he had been in previous appearances. He allowed the three runs in the first inning and then settled in a bit. He ended up going six innings allowing five runs, four of which were earned, on eight hits with six strikeouts and two walks.
Trailing 5-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Bees scored three runs to get within one of South Bend. The Bees had the tying run on at third with just one out but could not get it across the plate. South bend added two runs in the eighth and one run in the ninth to finish the game with eight runs. The Bees have not won a game this season when their opponent has score five runs or more.
David Lough had a great night at the plate. He went 4-4 with three RBI. Adrian Ortiz had two hits as was the only mother Bee with multiple hits. In all, the Bees only had seven hits on the night while they had four errors, which tied a season-high.
The Bees will look to even the series on Saturday night. Juan Abreu gets the start for the Bees in search of his first win of the season.
