Fuel Answer Wake-Up Call against Evansville

Indy Fuel News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN. - An early start and a building full of rowdy school children did nothing to deter the Indy Fuel (4-2-1-0) Wednesday morning, who skated to a decisive 3-0 shutout victory over the Evansville IceMen (1-4-0-0) during Education Day at Ford Center. The Fuel tallied goals in each period, and turned in an air-tight defensive performance to pick up their second-straight victory and first goose egg of the season.
Goaltender Mac Carruth recorded the shutout after turning aside 22 of 22 shots faced, while Dylan Clarke (1g, 1a), Ben Marshall (2a) and Kevin Quick (2a) all pitched in multi-point efforts to help seal Indy's second-consecutive win over Evansville to start the 2015-16 campaign. The Fuel have now won nine in a row against the IceMen, dating back to a 5-3 win on December 3, 2014.
While the game's unusual start time - 9:30 a.m. locally - offered the risk for a slow start, the Fuel jumped out of the gate and controlled play from the outset. Kyle Stroh netted his third goal of the season with the eventual game-winner at 12:35 of the opening period, via a deft redirection that fooled IceMen goaltender Christoffer Bengtsberg. Clarke started the scoring play when he moved the puck from the right half wall up to Marshall on the blue line, who found Stroh clogging up the slot in front of the Evansville cage.
Indy doubled their lead 4:07 into the second period when Garett Bembridge capitalized on a clean offensive zone entry. After carrying the puck across the attacking blue line, Alex Lavoie held up and found the trailing Bembridge, who drove to the net and outwaited Bengtsberg for his third of the year.
A power play goal from Clarke in the opening stages of the third capped the scoring and put the contest out of reach, with assists credited to Quick and Marshall. With the IceMen's Ryan Penny in the box at the start of the period for an elbowing minor, the Fuel worked the puck around the offensive zone resulting with a clean point shot from Quick. Clarke deposited the rebound to pick up his second point of the day, cushioning his lead atop Indy's scoring table (4g, 5a). The secondary assist on the goal was Marshall's fourth in his last two games, and his fifth helper of the season.
Carruth was steady throughout the day in picking up his second win of the season and fourth-career shutout in a Fuel uniform. The Jackson, Wyo. native turned aside 10 shots in the second period, while also leading his team to a perfect 4-for-4 mark on the penalty kill. On the other side, Bengtsberg was saddled with the loss stopping 19 of 22 shots.
The two clubs will meet again at Ford Center Friday night before Indy returns to the Circle City for a Saturday night matchup against the Quad City Mallards. Face-off for Friday's rematch in Evansville is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET.
NEXT HOME GAME: Saturday, November 7 vs. Quad City Mallards - 7:35 p.m. Indy hosts the Mallards to kick off the club's Movember promotion.
