Mallards Fall to Missouri in Overtime
November 4, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. (November 4, 2015) - Jesse Root scored his second goal of the game 37 seconds into overtime to give the Missouri Mavericks (6-2-1) a 4-3 win over the host Quad City Mallards (3-3-3) Wednesday night.
Root- who also had assist- put home a rebound to secure victory for the Mavericks and consign the Mallards to a single point for the sudden death defeat.
The Mallards forced overtime after Jake Baker scored a power play goal from the slot at 13:50 of the third period to even the score at three.
Root and linemates Kellen Jones and Tyler Barnes- both of whom had a goal and an assist- provided all of the offense for Missouri.
Jones gave the Mavericks their first lead by beating the second period buzzer with Missouri's second power play goal in just under two and a half minutes. Jones buried a loose puck from the slot to put the Mavericks on top 3-2 with just two tenths of a second left in the second. The Mavericks had battled back to tie the game at two when Barnes jammed the puck over the goal line at 17:33.
It was the Mallards who twice took the lead in the first period. Olivier Archambault charged into the goalmouth to open the scoring on the power play at 3:29 of the first. Root roofed a tying goal six minutes into the first. The Mallards grabbed a 2-1 lead when Zach Pochiro blasted the puck from the left wing circle at 16:10.
The Mallards return to action on home ice Friday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Wichita Thunder. With the arrival of "Movember", the Mallards join the campaign for men's health: the first 1,000 fans through the doors for Friday night's game will receive free (fake) mustaches. Friday evening is the Mallards' second $1 Beer/$1 Dog Night presented by 97X. Fans can enjoy $1 hot dogs and $1 beers at all Mallards' Friday night home games. Friday is also another MetroLINK College Night. The Mallards have once again partnered with Metro to provide transit service between Augustana College and downtown Moline during Friday home games. As part of Metro's unlimited ride program, Augustana riders can use their Augustana ID as their fare.
Single game tickets for all Mallards regular season home games- including Friday night's contests- are on sale now at the iWireless Center box office, Ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.com and Ticketmaster charge-by-phone toll free at 1-800-745-3000.
