Kansas City Mavericks News Release
MOLINE, IL (November 4, 2015)- The Missouri Mavericks took their Wednesday night matchup with the Quad City Mallards to an overtime decision after sixty (60) minutes of hockey left the two teams knotted at 3-3. Mavs leading goal-scorer, Jesse Root, notched an early game-tying goal in the first period before later securing the win, 4-3, for Missouri only thirty-seven (37) seconds into overtime.
Josh Robinson, who was announced as the Warrior Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Month for October earlier in the day, made twenty-seven (27) saves through sixty 60:37 minutes between the pipes for the Mavericks.
The Mallards scored an early goal on a man-advantage when Olivier Archambault bested Robinson with the help of Guillaume Gelinas at 3:29, but it did not take long for Mavericks' Jesse Root to notch the equalizer with his sixth goal of the season. Root lit the lamp just thirty-one seconds after Archambault's goal, assisted by Tyler Barnes.
Quad City regained the lead at 16:10 when Zach Pochiro scored with the aid of Tanner Eberle. The Mallards held the 2-1 advantage through the rest of the opening period.
The Mavericks dominated the second period in Moline, IL, outshooting the Mallards 15-9. Tyler Barnes, who was announced as the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week yesterday afternoon, evened things out on the scoreboard for the Mavs with a power-play goal late in the frame at 17:33. Kellen Jones and Bryce Aneloski were credited with assists on the play. Continuing the Mavs aggressive drive to the net, Jones took advantage of another power-play opportunity to take the lead for Missouri in the final seconds of the period at 19:59. Root and Barnes assisted on the Mavericks second power-play goal of the night.
The Mavs maintained their lead past the mid-point of the third period, until Jake Baker, with the help of Pochiro and Vladimir Nikiforov tied thing up again at 13:50 on the Mallards fifth power-play opportunity of the game.
Both teams remained knotted at 3-3 through the remainder of regulation hockey, forcing the game decision to overtime play.
