Swamp Rabbits Add More Than 200 Games of AHL Experience
November 4, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Greenville, S.C. - The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, today announced the team has signed veteran forward Jordan Knackstedt. In addition, forward Nikita Kashirsky has been waived.
Knackstedt boasts 210 games of American Hockey League experience during his eight-year career, in which he collected 92 points (38g, 54a) with Providence, Rochester and Abbotsford. The 27-year old initially signed an entry-level contract with the Boston Bruins in 2008 and spent parts of four seasons with AHL Providence.
"Jordan has a tremendous amount of AHL experience and will be a good fit for this team," head coach Brian Gratz said. "He has soft hands but is strong and brings that added physical edge to our lineup."
A native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Knackstedt spent last season overseas in Russia and Germany, playing in the second-tier leagues DEL-2 and VHL. He recorded 15 points (7g, 8a) and 41 penalty minutes in 33 contests. Previously, Knackstedt led the ECHL's Bakersfield Condors in scoring during the 2013-14 season with 51 points (19g, 32a) in 69 games.
Prior to turning pro, the 6'3, 201-pound forward played four seasons of major junior hockey in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with Red Deer and Moose Jaw from 2004-08. He led Moose Jaw in scoring with 85 points in 2007-08, and combined for 184 points (67g, 117a) in 268 career WHL games.
Knackstedt was selected in the seventh round (189th overall) by Boston in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
The Swamp Rabbits return to action on Friday with a 7:30 p.m. puck drop against the Norfolk Admirals in Norfolk, Virginia. Fans can follow all of the action online through ECHL.TV or the free Mixlr app.
