Frozen Times: The IceMen Weekly Recap

EVANSVILLE, Ind.-

Oct. 31 at Indy Fuel (L 4-3 SO)

Myles Bell scored his first professional goal on a give-and-go with Kale Kerbashian to put the Evansville IceMen, presented by Coors Lights up 1-0. Bell went to the backhand to beat Cody Reichard and put the IceMen up 1-0. The Fuel scored the next three including a power play goal and shorthanded goal as Indy claimed a 3-1 lead on home ice. Late in the second period, Bell delivered an encore as he rocketed a slap shot underneath the cross bar to cut the deficit to 3-2. In the third, Kale Kerbashian knotted it up when he fired a shot from the high slot into the back of the net. Bell picked up his third point of the night with an assist on Kerbashian's third of the year. '

With the score tied at three the two teams went to a shootout. Bell and the returning Brandon Wong scored for Evansville in the shootout. However, Indy scored on four of their five penalty shots to hand the IceMen their first defeat of the season.

Nov.1 vs. Indy Fuel (W 4-3, OT)

Indy claimed a 2-0 lead in the first period, behind the strength of a shooting barrage. The Fuel fired 12 shots, before the IceMen had their first crack at the net. Late in the first period, with a delayed penalty coming on the Fuel, Patrick Kennedy charged onto the ice as the extra attacker. Kennedy knocked in a rebound off of a Guy Lepine shot to cut the Fuel's lead to 2-1.

In the second period, Indy added to their lead as Patrick Cullen scored the Fuel's second shorthanded goal in as many nights to give the Fuel the same 3-1 lead they had one night earlier.

Much like Friday night's game, Evansville answered. Dirk Southern scored his first goal in an IceMen uniform on a wrap-around shot. Newcomer, Wes Myron added an assist on the play and Lepine picked up his second point of the night.

With under five minutes to go in regulation, Zack Currie made a nice cross pass that found the stick of Matt Lowry who slapped a shot past Mac Carruth to tie the game at three. Donnie Harris dished out a helper on Lowry's game tying goal that forced overtime.

In the extra frame, Harris launched a slap shot towards the net. Carruth made the save, but the rebound found the stick of Wong who banged it home to give the IceMen a 4-3 win. Kennedy had his third multi-point game in four tries this season.

This Week's Games (Wednesday Nov. 5 vs. Elmira 9:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7 vs. Wheeling, 7:15 p.m. & Saturday Nov. 8 at Toledo 6:15 p.m.)

It will be a busy week for the IceMen as the play their first three game week. The IceMen will welcome the Elmira Jackals to the Ford Center on Wednesday morning for Education Day. This game will also feature Head Coach, Dwight Mullins facing off against his former team. The IceMen will see the Wheeling Nailers for the first time on Friday night. Evansville will also usher in Youth jersey night as the first 1,000 kids 12 & under will receive a free youth jersey. Finally the IceMen will embark on their second road trip of the season as they travel to Toledo to battle the Walleye on Saturday night.

Team Notes

Ty Wishart finished as a runner up for the AMI Graphics ECHL Plus Performers of the Month with his +6 rating. Kale Kerbashian leads the ECHL in shooting percentage with a perfect 100% on the year. Cal Heeter ranks 9th in the ECHL in Goals Against Average with a 1.98 mark. The IceMen are the only team in the ECHL that has not lost in regulation. Evansville has outscored their opponents 6-0 in the third period. Head Coach Dwight Mullins is undefeated in the Ford Center. Dating back to his time with Elmira, he is a perfect 7-0 at the Ford Center. The IceMen rank 4th in the ECHL in attendance with a 6,607 fan average.

This Week's Community Events

IceMen Live at Beef O'Brady's: Monday Nov .1 from 6-8 p.m.

Stop by Beef O'Brady's in Newburgh for IceMen Live. Sean Pooley will interview Coach Dwight Mullins, team captain, Guy Lepine, Defenseman Donnie Harris and WEHT's Drew Amman.

The IceMen will return to the Ford Center for their next game on Wednesday, November 5th against. the Elmira Jackals at 9:30 A.M. It will be a revenge game for Head Coach Dwight Mullins as he takes on his former team.

Mullins has never lost at the Ford Center. He is 7-0 in Evansville with both the Jackals and the IceMen.

Wednesday morning's contest will also be education day as kids from around the Tri-State area will flock to the Ford Center to watch the IceMen and Jackals play some morning hockey. The IceMen will be wearing their special Education Day jerseys for this contest.
