SAUGET, Ill. -- Two former Grizzlies, Mike Breyman and Stephen Holdren, will be inducted into the Frontier League Hall of Fame as part of the six-member 2015 class. Breyman is currently the Grizzlies' hitting coach.
Breyman played for the Grizzlies from 2004-2008 and was one of the most prolific hitters to ever wear the Gateway uniform. Upon his retirement, Breyman held nearly every offensive record for the Grizzlies including most hits, runs batted-in, and total bases.
The Ohio native was a Post-Season All-Star in 2008 and ended his five-year career with a .325 career batting average, 458 hits, 82 home runs and a .420 on-base percentage. Several of Breyman's career records still stand in the Grizzlies' record books, including batting average, doubles, slugging percentage, walks, and grand slams.
Breyman first served as the team's hitting coach in 2012, helping lead the team to a 57-win season, a West Division title, and the team's first playoff appearance since 2008. Under Breyman's direction, the Grizzlies finished second in the league in runs and displayed impressive improvements at the plate.
Holdren played in 231 games for the Grizzlies from 2007-2009. He hit 56 home runs in a Gateway uniform with 161 RBI's. Holdren still holds multiple single-season Gateway records, including triples (8) and slugging-percentage (.627). His 2007 post-season batting average of .545 is also still a team record.
After his six-year Frontier League career ended, Holdren left the League as second all-time in runs scored, hits, home runs, and RBI's. He was a Post-Season All-Star in 2010 and 2011. The Hall of Fame ceremonies will take place at the 2015 All Star Game Luncheon, held in Schaumburg, Ill. on July 15, 2015. Other members of the 2015 Hall of Fame class include former players Bobby Chandler, Jason James, and Chris Sidick.
The league also chose to induct one special contributor, Bob Wolfe, and the 2002 All- Star Game Home Run Derby as the special moment in league history.
