Crushers pitching staff shuts down Aviators, offense uses longball

Rockford, Ill-- The Lake Erie Crushers beat the Rockford Aviators, 3-0, on Tuesday Night in Rockford as the Crushers used two home runs and a great pitching performance to cruise to victory.

With the win, the Crushers' (8-12) have started this road trip winning three of the first four games. The Aviators (15-7) have now lost three straight games and have gone 6-7 after their 9-0 start.

Not much offense was displayed in the game but the Crushers were able to get on the board first and not look back. Austin Prott hit a line drive solo home run to right, his second on the road trip. Lake Erie has won every game on this road trip when they score first.

Other than giving up the home run, Aviators starter Kyle Brueggemann (3-1) pitched very well for six innings. Only allowing two hits and striking out seven.

The Crushers were able to get knock Brueggemann around in the seventh inning. Jose Barraza singled to left to start the inning. Joey Burney then hit a home run that carried over the right field fence to put the Crushers up by three.

Jason Wilson (1-2), the Crushers starter went seven strong innings, his season high. Wilson allowed no runs, gave up six hits, struck out four and did not walk an Aviator hitter. He picked up his first win of the season. Mike Devine pitched one scoreless inning, and Trevor Longfellow (4) closed the door in the ninth inning, and walked the only hitter of the night by the Crushers pitching staff.

The Aviators offense had six hits, but only one runner advanced past second base. Michael Hur led off the game with a single. He moved to second on a groundout to first by Ja'ron Shepherd. Tanner Witt then hit a single to right, the Crushers right fielder Ty Nelson threw home on a line. Kevin Franchetti was covering home plate and swiped the tag to retire Hur, who was trying to score. Rockford left five on base throughout the game.

Eric Cedejas relieved Brueggemann in the seventh and worked 1.1 innings of relief allowing a hit and striking out one. Michael Schaub pitched the ninth inning allowing a hit and walking one.

The Crushers will continue their three game series in Rockford tomorrow. The Crushers starter will be Brad Zambron (0-1, 6.11) and the Aviators will start right hander Tony Rizzotti (2-0, 0.00). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:35 PM.
