Frogs Suffer 6-1 Setback at Rockford
May 30, 2018 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Loves Park, Ill. - The Green Bay Bullfrogs (0-2) were unable to capitalize on multiple offensive opportunities throughout tonight's action as the Rockford Rivets (2-0) complete the two-game series sweep over the Frogs with a 6-1 victory from Rivets Stadium in Loves Park, Ill. Wednesday evening. The Bullfrogs had their chances at the plate on many occasions, but were unable to get enough timely hits after leaving nine runners on base in the contest.
The Bullfrogs return to the friendly confines of Joannes Stadium for the first time in 2018 tomorrow night for the home opener versus the Madison Mallards. First pitch is slated for a 7:05 p.m. start in Titletown.
A live video webcast of the contest can be streamed online through the official Northwoods League website. Fans can also listen to the live audio broadcast on WOCO Radio (107.1 FM, 1260 AM) or online at WOCO.Caster.FM.
Green Bay designated hitter Leo Perez (Freshman, Texas A&M - Corpus Christi) topped the Bullfrog offensive charts with a 2-for-4 performance at the dish, including a RBI single that scored the Frog's lone run of the game. Center fielder Cooper Morrison (Sophomore, UC Davis) went 1-for-2 with a triple and one run scored.
Rockford got on the board with a RBI infield single by third baseman Garrett Goetz in the bottom of the second inning to snatch the early 1-0 lead. The Bullfrog offense came alive in the top half of the fourth. A one-out triple into left field by Morrison set-up a RBI base-knock by Perez to knot the score at 1-1.
The Rivets quickly regained the advantage in the bottom frame as a passed ball allowed the runner to score from third base and put the hosts back on top 2-1. Rockford never looked back, tallying a huge four-run fifth inning with a solo home run, RBI single and then a two-run base hit to complete the offensive surge.
Rockford was held scoreless and without a hit for the remainder of the contest, but the University of Dubuque pitching combination of Chase Kueter and Nathan Schneiderman kept the Bullfrogs off the board.
Kueter earns the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed one earned run on six hits through six complete innings with six strikeouts. Green Bay right-handed starting pitcher Jake Zatopek (Freshman, Incarnate Word) took the loss, falling to 0-1.
Bullfrog righty relievers Lawson Zenner (Sophomore, Wayne State College) and David Toth (Freshman, Hillsdale College) tossed four combined shut-out innings with just one hit allowed. Jenner fanned three Rivets, while Toth posted one strikeout in his one frame of work.
